November 17.. 1977 - Ge-
rald "Jumper"- Cornish, an
employee with the Exeter
works department for the past
38 years was honored by
council- on his -retirement this
week. Mayor Bruce -Shaw not-
ed that Cornish had been • a
dedicated, hard worker.
This week;Exeter Postmas-
ter Harvey Pfaff presented 25
years -Public -Service awards
to Doug Sweet and Bill Lenk
new Morrison Dam in Ushorne

75 YEARS AGO
November 17. 1922 - . On
Tuesday of last week, there
• was a break -down in the en-
gine that hauls the train. from
the north. The freight engine
was used to take the train to
London.
On Monday -while Mr. E.
• Rowcliffe was driving south
on -Main Street -with W.J. Stat-
ham's bread wagon he was run
into by Dr. Graham's auto. The
car struck the horse and carried
it a short distance. The•shafts
• of the wagon and parts of the
• harness were broken. and the_
horse .slightly bruised.
About 200 cars of celery
have been shipped from Thed-
ford this fall. -

November 17. 1962 - Exet-
er's second newspaper pub-
lished by members of Room
13 at Exeter Public School
was distributed following its
first publication. Thursday.
The paper was complete with
cartoons, news stories, editori-
als and jokes. Members of the
staff are David Frayn e. Nor-
man Howey. Karen McAr-
thur, Randy Jones, Ron Du-
rand, Gary Worm, Graham
Hern and Linda Wells.

CENTRALIA - Centralia United Church was.a busy place on the week-
end. Neighbors, friends and. family gathered at the church on November
15 to enjoy a turkey dinner.. Many people participated by conking the
turkeys, preparing the meal, and donating pies.
Peter Scott was the guest speaker at Centralia and Zion West United
Churches on December 16. with a message entitled "When Love is Not -
Enough" •
Donations of toques, mittens and socks would be welcomed to be given
to the children at CPRI. Place them on the 'Mitten Tree' at Centralia,
United Church. -
.If you have extra coats or jackets for children, the Granton Masonic
Temple is collecting them for needy -children -and youth. Contact Larry
Hern for more information. • •

There will he special services at the Centralia Faith Tabernacle this
week from Thursday to Sunday with Evangelist Lorraine Gibeau. Worship
will he held at 7 p.m. from November 20 to November 22. On Sunday,
November 23. Gibeau will minister in •both the 11 a.m. worship service
and the 7 p.m: evangelical service.
Everyone is welcome -to these services. Nursery assistance will he pro-
vided.

ty. a registered nurse on the sur-
gical floor -of the London Health
-Sciences University Campus. •

event was when 'the pathologist
handed me a human - brain to hold."'
Webber said. '
"The pathologist also showed us
•a hrain that, had Alzheimer. Com-
paring the Iwo brains. you could.
'see that- the .AIzheimers' hrain. was
discolored and all shrivelled up
compared to the normal hrain." she
explained.
On her mother's tloor. Wehher
had an opportunity to talk with pa- •
tients awaiting howel transplants,
• "One-of,the patients is a young
girl who has been on the floor for
three years • waiting for. a hovel
transplant. •I now know how im-
portant it is for people in sign the
hack of their licenses to donate_ -
iheir organs." she said. • .
Brianne and her mother have
shirts with the slogan "Why fiend
your organs -to heaven. heaven
knows we can use them here."
Grade nine student Brianne Webber spent a day with her
mother Patty at the London Health Sciences University
Campus in the. "Take your -kids to work day" on Nov. 5. As
part of the routine, We_ bber retrieved bloodwork information
-from the computer.
"This really didn't mean much to_
ire' until- I actually get to meet
someone who. needed a transplant
of an organ. it really -does make
you think.".she said.
Wehher's hands-on visit included
helping her mother look up patient
blood work on the computer, taking
the patients' temperature. pulse and
hhlod pressure.

near.Exeter at the end of a shift.
