Presiders Lila Ellis read a poem called Fla ders Field. The hall was dee ated - with poppies and red candles Birthday greetings sang to Almira Ford, Alexandra Dizoba, Gwen McKellar and Ella Hodder. Anniversary greetings sang to Grace and Clayton Merner. Gerald and Lois McFalls were missed. A happy anniversary to them as well. Minutes read and adopted as read seconded by Charlie Rollings. Treasurers report given accepted as read, seconded by Eldon Heywood. The Field Reps. Gwen McKellar and Louise Hayter paid their visit this month. The are from the zone and- make a report to U.S.C.O. The talked about seniors working together as seniors. The U.S.C.O. have purchased a new flag to represent all Seniors Clubs who belong to U.S.C.O. (United Senior Citizens of Ontario). Yellow color stands for golden years, white for security and blue, true to our country. - U.S.C.O. now recognize those of 50 years as Seniors. The U.S.C.O. have a very strong voice when put into use, A thank you to those who have the courage to stand tall for Grey Power. Alva Heywood Sec. presented Doris Denham treasurer with a cheque of $66. Heywood received this from their daughter Dorothy from Wingham. Employees in the Bank of Montreal' where Denham works save -a -tape program put it together with Zehrs and made a donation for Bingo players that go to the Villa for prizes. Bingo players this month are Alexandra Dizoba and Sebrina Litoborshi. . A get well card was sent to Lee Jory and Percy Noels also an anniversary card to Lois and Gerald McFalls. Mary Ford gave a report on the bus trip'to the races. Door prizes were won by Josie Ryckman, Ella Hodder and Clare Masse. • THE LIONS CORNER This coluinn will he a monthly update advertising the Exeter Lions Club's activities for,the preceding month. The purpose of this column is to keep the public informed of bur busy club's activities. Donations are as follows: • $1000 to Huron Safe Homes for Youth • $2000 to SHDHS for computer • $1183 to Jeff Finkbeiner for new medical equipi'nent • $125 to SHRC for public skating • $200 to Stephen Mirror Hockey • $500 to Palliative Care program 'The Exeter Lions Club.cele- brated its 60th Anniversary on October 18 at the Legion with special presentations to Bob , Dinney for 50 years of,active service. They also inducted four new members on October 22. Welcome to Brent Gotts, Terry Crawford, Paul Strupat and Leo Krahn. Doris Denham moved to close the ,meeting. WI Life Member honored at meeting USBORNE TWP. - Hurondale , W.I. met at the home of Marian Dougall on October 29 with 12 members and two visitors present. The president opened the meeting with the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. An In Memoriam" in honor of life member Olive Hicks was given by Dougall. Hicks.was also a life member of Huron South District W.I. The roll call,'was answered by a Halloween experience and Lorraine ,Alexander and her group were in charge of the program. Gladys Richardson gave several readings on autumn and a skit on "Resolutions" was performed by Alexander and Dougall. It was written by member Mabel Stanlake. Guest speaker was Alma Langford on "Positive Aging". Reports, from the W.I. Rally at Crediton we're given by Helen Webber and Bev Campbell: Marian Dougall reported on the Area Convention which was held in Embro. A report was given on the Board meeting in Hensall. Some members took the short courses in Londesborough this week. /b►ra tasty t Lt... There Is something about remembering and food that go hand in hand! It must be nostalgia. I love to associate various recipes with different periods in my lifetime. The following recipe comes from my days in highschool home economics. What fun we would have picking out a menu, making our grocery list and then preparing and eating our delectables. Some things turned out - others well we say we learned something! Enjoy the following! Zippy Salisbury Steaks 1 1 /2 lbs. ground beef 2 tbsp. margarine 1 /2 cup sliced onions 2/3 cup water 1 /4 cup brown sugar 2 tbsp. bottled steak sauce (or Worcestershire) 1 tsp. salt • Shape beef into oval steaks. Heat margarine and brown steaks. Set aside. Add onions to pan drippings and saute till soft. Add all other ingredients. Bring to a boil stirring lots, add meat and simmer together. Tip. I often double the onions and sauce to give a large amount of 'gravy'.
