Rookie candidates vie for Hay council positions
While, some candidatesare. ready to "cut the cheque" for downloaded services, other want to continue the fight

way of dealing with downloading.

The candidates. said they were all
concerned about water quality but
varied with the amount of • re-
sponsibility they thought the coun-
cil 'could accept to improve water
quality.
Campbell said - Hay Township
doesn't have the resources to im-
prove water quality.
"We have to lobby_ the provincial
and federal governments to put .
money into the environment-" -
• According to Camphell; people .

Council and other groups should -
work together,• according • to De-
nomnie who also believes higher
levels of government, should he -
asked for funding to improve water
quality. He views council as a

Gillespie, who has been a..vocal -
opponent of the, practices that pol-
lute. Lake Huron said there are sev-
drat sources of water pollution. •

- He wants council to. investigate
the feasibility of septic inspection
bylaws and tri work' with Zurich to

prove the village's sewageiagonns.

' Mousseau -would also like the
community to work together to -im-
prove the lake's quality,
"It's 'everybody's responsibility

Race for reeve •
The candidates for reeve appear•
to have :opposing. leadership 'styles
• and hopes (Or the future of Hay.
• Klopp.•4(1. sees the reeve's post-
• tion as the combination -of being a
councillor atrdacbair of the council.

loading during his allotted time.

He maintains that if a municipal-

provincial responsibilities.
"If at the end of the day 'we lose,
we've put gond arguments togeth-
er." he concluded.
In the water quality issue. Klopp
believes council should take a lead-

ership role. As a member of the
pork producers.- he says he is par-
ticipating in_ ablutions. Realizing
everything takes time or money. he
would like municipal staff M. lohhy
for funds and would like council to
get groups together;to improve wa-
ter quality.
