• for kids froip kindergarten to Gr. 6.
The camp costs $10/student/day
and includes crafts.
movies, skating.
hockey, gym time,
games, reading,
snacks and' more.
The camp also pro-
vides two hours/day
of school lessons taken off the In-
ternet. Parents must pack a lunch
for their children.
The `camp runs Monday -Friday. 8
a.m.-5 p.m. (or starting whenever
parents can drop their kids off). the program each day. •

Kasteren, left, and Billy• VanPraet, both 9, carve a Halloween
pumpkin. The camp gives working parents a place to. send '
their children during the week while the teachers are on strike.
"I think it's great," said parent
Teresa VanderHoek of RR2 Ailsa
Craig. It gives them something to
do. I like it because it's structured,
supervised and it's inexpensive."
VanderHoek plans on sending
her three children, Nicole, 9, Kate-
lyn, 7, and Allison to the camp on
some days during the teachers
strike.
Centre manager
Paul Dykeman• said
he came up with the
program ,as part of
the centre's man-
date — "as a ser-
vice to the com-
munity." •
"The working mothers 'needed a
place •to send their children ec-
onomically and safely." he said.
About 30 children are enrolled in

which would allow the Public ,

Also referred back .to the Public
Works department was the Burn
Bylaw which states that social fires
are acceptable. but, in order to burn
leaves acid tree trimmings a leaf per-
mit is required.
"How ,does one.know if it's a sq-
cial fire or if' its' an illegal one`?
Councillor Bob Mann asked. .
"Maybe what you should do is put
a time of year on .when you can
have social fires." Mayor Cam Ivey
suggested. "Maybe'you-need an at);
propriate container so that •the fire.
Bait be put intherc and controlled."
, One concern was that people are
having illegal fires, and when they
are. approached by an officer they
throw a hot dog• ovef it and pretend
they are actually having a social -
fire. •- .
it was decided ao refer the. issues
of winter maintenance and the burn,.
