Grand Bend United Church celebrated 125 years as a congrega- tion on Saturday, Oct' 25. The church also celebrated 100 years of outdoor summer ser- vices end 70 years in the present structure. A number of congregation members attended the event, which included dinner and entertainment by !della Gabel as well as Norman Ab- bott and the Grand Bend United Church Choir. Shown here are two members of the an- niversary committee, Betty Gumell and Edward Avey. Committee members Edna Frampton and Bob Putman were not available for a photo. Halloween costume parade fun for children at Thames Road/Elimville Health and Safety Week the focus at Queensway Hensall - Fun and Fitness started ' the day for residents, Monday morning. In the afternoon the Hen- sall United Church women pro- vided assistance and prizes at Bin- go. We are enjoying their help every Monday in October, Winnie Hutton, Pastoral Care Volunteer led . the church service Tuesday afternoon, as well .as the memorial service for those res- idents who have passed on in the last few months. Residents , vol- unteers and staff shared their spe- cial memories and expressed their feelings of loss. The Wednesday Breakfast group feasted on French toast, syrup, sau- sage and orange slices with coffee. Volunteer Edna Deitz was in to as- sist, serving hot off the grill. family style. In the afternoon, sun catchers were painted, Christmas ornaments were glazed and candle decorations were assembled by • residents and volunteers. Senior Diners as well as residents and visitors enjoyed the music of Marie Flynn and the Huron ,Strings as they entertained at our October Birthday Party. Flynn also brought line dancers as a special treat. Over sixty people were served birthday cake. Birthday greetings to Pearl Eyre, Homer Taylor, Elizabeth Briggs, Leonard Greb, Frayne Par- sons. Stan Briggs and Margaret Finkbeincr. All through the week the focus was wellness as we celebrated Health and Safety. Week. Church service The church service' on Sunday Morning was at Elimville. During the singing of the Introit, Andrew Weston lit the Christ Candle. Carolyn Johns welcomed everyone, including guest minister Rev. Stephen Huntley of Blyth. Rev. Jock Tolniay was ministering at the anniversary service at Blyth. • The call to worship was given by Carolyn Johns and Rev. Huntley led in the prayer of approach ,and confession. Rev. Huntley told the.children's story about the Kookaburra bird of Australia and "How God Calls Us." Carolyn Johns read scripture and Dale and Joan Skinner received the offers ng. Rev. Huntley played his guitar and sang. His sermon was entitled "Feeling Cared For". The givings are not covering the expenses of the church. October giving to date are $1,865 and -the expenses to date are $4,985. If any- one. has any suggestions bn how to increase the givings without can- vassing, please put your suggestion, on the offering plate. A reminder t� bring an item for. the food bank next Sunday. Also on November 2 the Community of Rural Churches are holding an evening service of wor- ship, music and fellowship at Thames Road U.C. with orchestra and sing song at 7 p.m. The guest Speaker will be Giselle.Ircland. The spouses were invit- ed to a potluek turkey dinner. , The early Christmas get together of the descendants of the late Willie and Roxie Jcffcry met at the Dashwood Community Centre on Sunday for dinner and supper. The gospel music night spon- sored by the Exeter Bible Fellowship featured the Bauman and Bramhill Quartet, Roy Dreaning, Irish Baritone' and Sharon Parker, soloist and pianist. on Sunday evening.
