Senior Panthers pick up first win
EXETER - The' South Huron
- District High. School senior girls
'won their first basketball ganie • of
the season at home last week by sti-
lling St. Anne's 44-23.
Coach Terry O'Rourke said the
team put in "a very good all-round
effort." Arlene Intakhana put up -10
points, Julie Roosebolnn added
eight and Jen Regier netted five..
The junior girls lost to a strong
Si. Anne's team 35-30.
.."Although they lost, it was the
girls hest 'outing this year," coach
Brian O'Connell said. Cherisse
Knip and Sarah Gardner led Pan-
ther scoring with six points each.
The midgets remain 'undefeated
after squeaking by St. Anne's 40-
39, Jessica Davies and Kerrie Ful-
ton scored II points each and Pant

The senior Panthers could inuster
just six players for the Woodstock
tournament on Saturday. "they lost

SHDHS rallied with •a goal. this
time by Shawna Rowe. but couldn't
pick up another marker to tic.
Kingston's Lasalle heat the. Pan-
thers 2-0 in the final game. -
SHDHS coach Jim Workman
said the Schoolgirls Conference
tournament is always tough with a
lot of OFSAA contenders.
The Panthers are still perfect in
Huron -Perth .league play with a 9-0
win at Stratford Northwestern on
-ihursday. Rowe notched frvc goals
while Kim MacLean, Lori Richard-
son, Lisa Hodge and Straw picked
up singles.

The Panthers won their second game Over Battling Memorial 17-
12 on tries by Ben Allen, Nic Bayley, Inthisorn and a convert by
Vincent. •
The two wins made SHDHS tops lathe 'B' ptiol-and sent theist to
the semi-final versus Northwestern which the Panthers lost 43-5.
Bryan Evans provided the sok scoring for the Panthers with his try.
The juniors host theconsolation final to Walkerton Sacred Heart
22-17. Panther tries came from Ingram. Chris Brandon and Inthisorn
with a convert from Vincent. •
Panther coach Terry O'Rourke said Inthisorn deserved SHDHS',
MVP honor for his "superb play."
-I'he senior boys didn't fare as well going 1-2 for the day. They
lost to Mentor College 52-5 with Jeremy VanEsboreck scoring a try
and to Ranting Memorial 31-5 with Aaron Stanton scoring the try.
'ire seniors edged E.C. Drury 26-22 with three converts and two
tries from Jason Neil and single tries from Jason Brown and Steve
Rasenberg. Neil was named team MVP for the day.
"All in all a great day at sevens rughy and a good effort by all
players," O'Rourke said.

Hawks double N. Middlesex 8-4
PARKHILL - The Exeter Jr. D Hawks hockey
club are 2-0 on the season after a 8-4 road victory
over the North Middlesex Stars on Saturday.'
Jeff Campbell and Ben McCann led Exeter scor-
ers with two goals each with Mike Bowerman,Jeff
Finkbeiner, Chris McDonald and Geoff Mayer add-
ing singles:'Jeff Glover, Finkbeiner, Dave Farquhar
and Jeff Glavin each added two assists -and Ryan
Freiter added a single helper.
The game was much closer than the final score
suggests with the teams exchanging goals till Exeter
•
took a 5-4 lead with only 19 seconds left in the sec-
ond period. The Hawks took charge of the game
early in thethird by scoring a goal after only 50 sec-
onds and never looked back.
"We wore -them down in the third.," assistant
coach Dean Schram said, Parkhill likely feeling the
effects of playing five games over a single week.
The Hawks 'next take on Mt. Brydges-at home on
Friday. an 8:30 p:rn. start at Exeter Arena (their sec-
ond season opener after using Hensall ice for game
one) and host Thamesford on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

junior South Huron District High
School boys `volleyball teams came
up hig during matches versus ('lin-
tun Central Huron and Si. Anne's
at home on "Thursday. •
The seniors defeated Clinton • 15-
5. 8-15 and 15-8 and swiped three
straight from St. Anne's 15-8. 15-1
and 15-9. SHDHS's record is 11=7.
On Tuesday the seniors lost their
snatch to host Central Huron 2-1
with scores of 15-9,15:17 and 10-
15 and were downed three straight
by Wingham Madill 5-15. 5- 15 ,"end
1-15.
The juniors moved to a 10-8
league record by winning its match-
es over Central Huron -(-15-8, 15-12
and 15-7) and St. Anne's (15-12,
12-15 and 15-8). They also beat
host • Central Huron..on -Tuesday
(15-9, • 13- 15 and 15-6) but didn't
fare. as well versus Madill (9-15,
15-12 •and 7-15j.
