Naturalist's delight
Trail blazing. Left photo: London's Sandy Hodgins, !eft, and husband Cliff tried out the
Rotary Club of Grand Bend Nature Trail during its grand opening on Sunday. At right:
'Bend Rotary Club past president Brad Oke, front left, trail committee vice -chair Don
Tedford, Rotary president Gordon Britton, .back left, and trail chairperson Hank Krech
pose by the trail entrance to the proposed Rotary Sports and Recreation Park halfway
between the 'Bend and the Pinery at a former dump site. The 23 -acre park,. what Krech
calls a "20 year project," will feature three soccer pitches, a pavilion and washrooms,
an outdoor amphitheatre, two skating rinks, a tobaggan run, a rollerblade trail and a
club house when complete. The $160,000 nature trail runs from Rnedale Rd. in Grand
Bend to the Pinery Provincial Park gates and hooks up to the Pinery's trail system.
Krech said the support of the Town of Bosanquet was key in making the trail become a
reality and the continued support of Bosanquet as well as Grand Bend, Lambton County
and the Ministries of Transportation and Natural Resources will be needed to create the
sports park. Krech said 400 people attended the trail opening ,festivities including 150
bikers in the Elgin -Middlesex 'AAA' Chiefs hockey club bike-a-thon that raised over
$15,000 for the team and the Rotary Club.
