Irish final cuts to be made before tonight's home game
By Craig Bradford
T -A Reporter
MITCHELL - The Lucan Jr. D Irish continue to shine in the pre-
season with a win and a tie last week.
The Irish tied Mitchell 3-3 on the road on Sunday. Lucan goals came
from Greg Henderson, Mau Porter and Mike Robb with Dan Hardick
adding two assists. Lucan had 16 play catch up after falling 3-1 to the
Hawks early in the second period. -
Lucan overcame.some first period jitters to beat North Middlesex (Park-
hill) 7-4 at home on Thursday.
"We larked intensity for the first 20 minutes," Irish co -coach Jason Bu -
kala said. "We hada little bit of a talk between the first and second period
and we picked up the intensity." -
Ben Dobie potted a hat -trick for the Irish while Hardick, Jamie Light-
foot, Neal Costello and Mark Phillips added singles. Phillips and Dobie
also added three and one assists respectively. -
Bukala said he played half squads for both games..
The Irish have sct both their goalie and defence Zine -up With 16 -year -
Old rookie backstops Marc Williams Of Lucan and Mike Boyce of London
making the cut.
"We're confident they'll come along and do the job," Bukala said.
The coaching staff will now. try to pare down their five full offensive
lines and choose which one of their three overage players to cut London's
Steve Hudson, Lucan's Robb or Centralia's Lightfoot.
"We have a real tough decision," Bukala said.
Lucan will carry a 25 -roan rooster throughout the season meaning some
players will be watching from the stands.each game.
"That's a good position to be -in," Bukala said.
'The. final cut will probably be made prior to tonight's exhibition game at
home versus Lambeth at 8:15 p.in. .
"We're going to have a good mix up front," Bukala said. "We're' not
real bigon forward but we have a ton of experience." .
Lucan also has five big -returning defencemen, he said.
"Our goal is to have hofnc ice advantage for the first round of .the
playoffs," Bukala said when asked what the team's goal is at the outset.
The Irish play their first game of the'season on Oct. I when they host

In-line hockey tourney sidelined
EXETER - The MacLean's In -Line Hockey Tournament set for •
Sept. 21 at the South Huron Recreation Centre -was -called off since
only one team signed up.
Outgoing rec.director Lynne Farquhar (see today's front page sto-
ry) said many players are now hitting the ice for minor hockey and
the gyms for school sports and may not have had the time or drive to
sign up for the tournament.
"It's more of a timing thing than anything," Farquhar said.
This is the second straight year the tournament has been cancelled
•due to lackof-interest. Farquhar said organizers may try to hold the
tournament during the in-line hockey regular May -June season
The reason for holding the tourney last weekend was to have' a
youth -orientated event at Exeter -Fair on the Sunday, Farquhar said.
-Farquhar's.position with the town was eliminated as a cost-saving
measure.
Finding the hole. Lucan Jr. D )risk goalie Mike Boyce can't keep North Middlesex's Shawn Battram oft the score sheet during --
their game at Lucan Arena last week. Boyce and the rest of Lucan's netminders did keep out enough pucks for a 7-4 win.
