Teachers threaten strike action
.. Continued front front page .
District president Paul Dyck said
Friday's announcement .that the
right t strike was not being taken
away was "not a significant gift."
• "I -described that as my. wife
going into my sweater drawer, tak-
ing outa sweater, wrapping it.up
and giving it to me for Christmas,"
he said.
But it did mean stopping the
move towards a strike, he said.
Snobelen's introduction of the new.
bill has swung the pendulum hack
towards a strike, he said. •
"(The bill's details) are all a
pewer grab with no money attached
to them," Dyck said::"(Snohelen)
gave the ministry the power to take
over negotiations, establish class
size, prep time and staffing levels:
In effect, how can a local unit bar-
- gain." .
He said the likelihood of teachers
walking out is "probable." '
"Teachers .don't' want tri go.on

.said. .
He added teachers nave an
