Ontario municipalities will begin.to.pay for their own
policing. The OPP has been providing province -wide
service while some rural mun.icipalities.have not paid
for it. In the past, OPP service has come out of pfo-

washroom bylaw
GRAND BEND - After discuss- t
ing a proposal for the rental of 68
Main Street 'washrooms, council
decided it should pursue upgrading
the village's existing facilities rath-
er than adding new ones.
"I'm not fully convinced," said ,
Deputy Ntayor Phil Maguire re-
garding the proposed washroom
bylaw. "At the moment I don't
think it's the right thing to do."
The village currently operates
live washroom facilities and Ad-
ministrator Paul Turnbull estimates
it costs approximately $6,000 to
clean and'stock paper products in
the washrooms_ annually. It was
discussed that this money would
be better spent upgrading the beach,
facility in anticipation of the 2001
Summer Games and to provide a
"legacy for the t ommunity."
"It really bothers me -to have
washrooms smack dab on Main
Street," said Councillor Barb
Whceldon.
Council will advise the owner of
the property of its decision regard-
ing the washroom rental and the
reasons behind declining the invita-
tion.
