Terry Fox Run
Raises more
than $5,482
By Chantal! Van Raay
TA Reporter
EXETER - Once again the Terry
Fox Run was a success, raising
more than $5,482 between Exeter,
Zurich and Lucan.
At 10 a.m. on Sunday, September
14, Exeter residents of all ages con-
gregated at the MacNaughton Park
equipped with in-line skates, bikes
and walking shoes. From the start,
coordinator lane Hundey said she
was busy filling out forms, check-
ing pledge sheets and directing par-
ticipants through the 10 -kilometer
trek around town. Hundey said this
year was an "absolutely great turn-
out because last year we only had
six participants, and this year we
had 47."
Hundey explained why she
thought there was a better turnout
this year than last.
"The weather was a big part of it.
Last year it rained all day, but this
year the weather was beautiful. L
think that is why so many people
came out. It was a great day to go
for a walk."
In total, the Exeter Terry Fox
Run raised about $1,451. Hundey
said the event raised a substantial
amount more than that through the
toonie jars distributed throughout
town before the run. Hundey could
.not give an exact total of how much
was raised through the toonie jars
but she said it would be important
to include this in the total amount
of money raised.
Zurich also had a great turnout on
Sunday. Participants ranged from
tots in strollers, to those who have
been participating in the event for a
number of years. Coordinator for
the Zurich Terry Fox Run Wendy
Rowan said the event raised about
$2,231 through pledges. In total
there were 40 participants.
This year, the Lucan Terry Fox
Run added something special to the
day. A dedication board, where par-
ticipants
could dedicate their run to
someone with cancer, was present
at Market Street Park in Lucan,
where the run commenced.
The Lucan Terry Fox Run raised
about $1,800, with 50 walkers, run-
ners, joggers, bikers and bladers in
attendance.
Come on guys. Biking is a popular mode of transportation
for Terry Fox Run participants. Here, three bikers from Zu-
rich begin their 10 -kilometre trek. Zurich had a total of 40
oarticipants with the run.
