Bluewater tugs to national win
1ONDON ' The Bluewater Tug
of War Club dug in at the Canadian
Nationals competition at the West-
ern Fair on Saturday and brought
Dashwood and area home some
glory.
in a. non -sanctioned 680 kg
match.- the Bluewater men pulled
for first place. beating Zorra (Em-
bro i and •Vittella. The Bluewater
women came in fourth place. beat-
ing out the Brantford women.
When competing against men's
teams, the women had their full
eight -person squad while the men's
teams dropped two members.
' In sanctioned action, the Blue -
water men finished first in 720 kg,
again beating Zorra and Vittella.
Bluewater next competes at the
Neyv Hamburg Fall Fair on Friday
and travels to Embro for a fall fair
there on Sunday. On Sept. 19 Blue -
water will be at the Stratford Fall
Fair and the team winds up its year
at Kitchener's Bingeman Park for
the Octoberfest competition.

Exeter triples
narrowly miss
bronze medal
ST. CATHARINES — Mar-
shall' Dearing, Harry Jacobi and
Bill Mickle narrowly missed the
bronze medal at the '97 Provin-
cial Senior Triples Champion, -
ships on Sept. 3-4.
Theyt lost the bronze match
to Niagara Falls on Thursday
putting them in fourth place fpr
the tourney. To make it to the
bronze final. the Exeter team
beat Ottawa's Elmdale Club,
,Agincourt but lost to Balmy
Beach on Wednesday. They ad-
vanced to Thursday action
where they defeated Sarnia but
lost to Cobourg.

ebner notched third place at the
44 team Lucknow. M&M pairs
tourney on Labor Day with a
3W44+1 record.
• Les Hills and McFalls took

Club singles tournament on Sat-

Machan ' Snowball' mixed trip-

Big winners. The 'AAA' minor novice Mid -Elgin Red Wings, based out of Lucan Arena, won
the recent '97 Canada's Wonderland Champions Choice Hockey Tournament in Toronto.

12-1 vs. Vaughan Pathers; 8-3 vs. Toronto Bulldogs: 8-1 vs. Village Mad Dogs; 3-2 vs. Vau-
ghan in the semi-final; 5-3 vs. Richmond Hill Alistars in the final. Logan Couture led the Red
Win attack with 17 goals and eight assists.

On September 7 a team of
shooters shooting for the
Kippen Gun Club travelled to
Mason. Michigan to compete in
their five -man fall team shoot.
One hundred and ninety-five
teams were entered in the event
with each member shooting at
100 targets and the total team
score being recorded out of
500. A score of 494 out of 500
was recorded for the Kippen
team tying a team from
Michigan. A shootoff was
required to resolve the dead-
lock. The Kippen team hit 123
out of 125 targets in the
shootoff while the Michigan
squad hit 118. Shooting for
Kippen were Jamie Caldwell
(97. Brad Mann (99), Dan
Crerar (99), Don Dolbear (99),
and Keith Saunders (100).
