The meeting that fol- lowed was held in. the Lodge Hall. She opened the meeting by welcoming everyone back and reading a poem "Good Friends." Vice Grand Bev Campbell sent cards during the summer to Margaret McBride who had her eye oper- ated on, and to Phil Hern and Irwin Ford in South Huron Hospital. She visited Fred Delbridge in South, Huron Hospital and gave him a gift when he had a heart attack: She visited Doris Denham when she had her foot operated•on and took her a Rebekah cup and saucer. She took a plant to Mary Baechler when Bill died. She sent a card to Mable and Norm Stanlake on the occasion of their 55th anniversary. She attended the open. house and took a card to Margaret Cook, Jean Bridge, Brussels, and Belva Rowe when they each celebrated their birthdays. ' There were invitations to Paisley Memorial Rebekah Lodge, Ilderton, for their Hobo Night, September 22; from Victoria Rebekah Lodge, London, for Friendship Night, September 4 and to Morning Star Rebekah Lodge for their Friendship Night, September 23. There will be a School of Instruction at Strathroy, September 27. A car Toad will be going to Ruth Rebekah Lodge, Stratford, for their Friendship Night, September 16. The group was instructed to drape the Charter in memory of Elmer Matthews, PGM. A Proclamation was read for the Rebekah Degree, September 20 and a Proclamation for UN Pilgrimage for Youth for the month of September and a General Proclamation for all special dates during the coming year. iOOF license plates are available. Anyone interest- ed may contact the secretary for instructions and address. Bernice Ford will be installing lodges in Clinton, Brussels with the help of her installing staff and Exeter wtih the help of the installing staff from ilderton. The Installation date in Exeter is October 15, Brussels is October 14 and Clinton is October 20. Exeter helps install Ilderton on October 27. Birthday honors were sung for Bernice Ford, Mavis Atthill, Elaine Skinner and Gloria McFalls. NG thanks those who donated pies and their time to the booth at "Christmas in July" and the barbecue. The Lodge closed and they repeated the Rebekah Creed and sang "It is No Secret." Leaders needed for Hensall Beavers By Liz Sangster Hensall correspondent HENSALL - Registration for Hensall Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts is on September 11 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hensall Public School. Leaders are needed in order to con- tinue the Beaver Colony. Hensall Legion members arc reminded that regular meetings for the fall season begin on September 10 at 8 p.m. The Hensall and District Horticultural Society meet on September 1.5 at 8 p.m. at Hensall United Church. The speaker will be Eric Hewison of Listowel who will discuss "'Winterizing Your Garden". Members from the sur- rounding area will also be invited to this meeting. The theme flower for the meeting will be the dahlia. If you have any dahlia flowers, growing tips, or dahlia trivia, please bring them to the meeting. Everyone is welcome. The next Hensall and Area Community Drop In will be held September 18 at Hensall United Church. The day begins with foot care at 10 a.m. Contact Marg Cole at 262- 2304 if you are interested in sched- uling an appointment. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Following lunch, they will be entertained by Ken Connolly with a unique rope making demonstration and antique tools display. The day will wrap up with games of cards. The cost is $4 per person. Lincoln Alexander will be the guest speaker in the evening for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Exeter Lions Club. Rev. Don Rogers is the new minister at Exeter's Pentecostal Church. Hensall citizens will no longer have to travel to Exeter, Zurich or Clinton for their beer, wine or spirits. Jeff Williams is the manager of the new liquor store housed in a' Targe trailer on Highway 4, just north of the village. 30 YEARS AGO September 7, 1967 - Crgwds estimated at between 8.07 and 9,000 attended Exeter's 1%, elet er the weekend, to make it the biggest rodeo ever held 'n r'hairman Dick Roelofson said he was "extremely harpy th tire response for the first rodeo at Exeter Community Park after tl1c event moved from a previous location in Stephen Town\l i 1. , Roelofson predicted the committee would possibly be able to clear their debts on the new facilities at the park, in addition to meeting expenses involved with the rodeo. Premier John Robarts' announcement for a provincial election on Tuesday, October 17 has started the political wheels turning espe- cially in the riding of Huron. Current Huron member, the Hon. C.S. MacNaughton is expected to be back to represent the Conservatives. Rev. John Boyne of Exeter will be the NDP candidate and Brigadier Morgan Smith of Bayfield will be the Liberal candidate. 40 YEARS AGO September 7, 1957 - Hensall Kinsmen arc considering the estab- lishment of a fund to construct a swimming or wading pool for the community with the profits from Monday's "very successful" Onta- rio Bean Festival Mr. Lorne Hodge has disposed of his general store in Crediton. The large double store on Crediton's main corner was built by the late Christian Beaver. it was purchased by Mr. Hodge nine years ago. He will continue to carry on his plumbing, heating and.electri- cal business. Members of the Woodham choir met Thursdayevening to honor their leader Ray Mills who has moved to Exeter. 45 YEARS AGO - • September 9, 1952 - The South Huron District High School reached its capacity this week as 390 students enrolled for the com- ing term. This is an increase of 50 over last year. Ray Frayne was installed as president of the Exeter Kinsmen club for the coming year at the club's meeting Thursday. He is a charter member of the club. Miss Dorothy Davis was one of the top exhibitors in handicrafts and hobby work at London Fair this week. Mrs. Helen Jermyn was appointed junior principal of Exeter Pub- lic School at a meeting of the board recently. 55 YEARS AGO September 5, 1942 - A.C. I R.L. Wuerth of the SFTS in Aylmer and LAC R.A. Wuerth of the Winnipeg Repair Depot, twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Alf Wuerth arc spending 14 day furloughs with their parents. The public school will reopen this Tuesday. Mr. Ray Waghorn, a member of the staff last year will be the new principal taking the place of Mr. J.B. Creech who has joined the R.C.A.F. Residents of this community who have followed with interest the building of No. 9 SFTS at Centralia are now to have the opportunity of paying a visit to and inspecting the airport at its official opening on September 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. Miss Grace Beckler, who has been spending the summer at Grand Bend, commenced her duties as teacher at Eden School. 80 YEARS AGO September 10, 1917 -The price of a length of stove pipe has in- creased from twelve to twenty-five cents a length. Mr. John Ford, caretaker of the Exeter cemetery, wishes to state he will be compelled to take action against those parties who persist in picking the flowers at the cemetery. Mr. R.G. Seddon last week sold his farm one mile south of town to Mr. Ed Kni§ht of Usborne. The purchase price was $10,000. Sunday, Nancy Fraser was the min- ister with Mark Garlough conduct- ing the ministry of song. Welcome and announcements were given by Ian McAllister. Shirley McAllister gave the Prayer of Illumination and read from the New Testament. Nancy Fraser's sermon was 'Time for Silent Reflection". Ray and Jean Jacobe took up the offering.
