Playoffs not a lock for Centennials
EXETER — The Exeter Cen-
tennials senior men's soccer club
couldn't match their defensive
prowess with any otl'eni e in their
1-0 defeat to London's Forest Unit-
ed on Sunday at Nabisco Field.
The loss drops Exeter to filth and
out oldie 1 urth and last playoff
spot in the Division iI'Central race.
After Unitcd:took an early lead.
Exeter put on the pressure but had
no Tuck tinkling the net. Mark
F3rintnell struck the hall well to–
ward the near post from eight
yards out in the first half hut the
United keeper managed to get a
hand on it to knock it aside.
Exeter's Jeremy Wright had the
hest chance in the second half
when Joe Martens crossed one per-
• fectly to the far post where Wright
was waiting with a yawning cage.
-Wright's header just missed the
post. Kuban Chelladurai fed Mar-
tens with a nice pass to the corner:
Now with a 9-6-3 record and a
• league playoff spot, in jeopardy,
Centennials spokesperson/keeper
.George McEwan said they are fo-
cusing on the Second Division
Cup. They host a semi-final cup
game versus the Western Divi-
sion's Latinos on Thursday at Na-
bisco Field, a 6:30 p.in. start.
Exeter's next league game is at
Serbia on Sept. 7 with their last
horne game on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
versus the Olympics. Exeter's last
game of the season is at the Gcr.
man Canadians on Sept. 20.
Takin' the high road. Exeter Centennials' Dan Martens
gets his head on the ball before his Forest United op-
ponent during their senior men's soccer game at Nabisco
Field on Sunday night. United edged the Centennials 1-0.
