DASHWOOD - Whether of Teutonic roots or not, hundreds of people became German for a
day at Friedsburg Days on the weekend.
The 26th annual celebration of German heritage kicked off on Friday with a Bavarian beer
garden, the annual co-ed baseball tournament, bingo and a dance.
On Saturday the baseball tournament at the Dashwood diamond continued but was inter-
rupted by the oldtimers game between the '68-72 Dashwood Tigers and the '68 Zurich Lum-
berkings. The Tigers were a force to be reckoned with in the Huron -Perth Intermediate
League during those years, winning the all -Ontario championship four times in five years.
They also dominated on Saturday, beating Zurich 8-4. The Tim as Advocate's own Ross
Haugh did the play-by-play during the game.
Also on Saturday was the annual parade, this year themed 'Take Me Out To the Ball
Game', horseshoe competition, the mini -tractor pull, arm wrestling, tug -o -war competition
and the Rhine Danube Dancers.
Rob Hoffman expanded the. annual Farmer's Walk into the first ever Strongman competi-
tion featuring foul events: the farmer's walk, the keg relay, the sheaf throw and_ the stone
throw.
