'Dianne Waun's backyard in Exeter last week. Sergei and Taniya are from the Chernobyl area
in the former Soviet Union and have been staying with Joy and Norm Caserin of Grand Bend
and Dianne and Murray Waun respectively as part of the. St. Marys Children of Chernobyl
committee program. The program provides the youngsters. that. suffered through the Cher-
nobyl nuclear accident and its fallout with nutritious food, free dental care; clothes .and 'oth-
er items as well as lots of support from the community. Taniya and Sergei, as well as the
13 other children -from the .Chernobyl area hosted by area families, return to their home-
lands on Aug. 11.

Basic Tinfoil Meal for One
Campfires and tinfoil meals! Now does that conjure up
some memories for you. I remember many times preparing
this simple meal and with pride placing it in the fire! 'As a
family. we enjoy this meal over our BBQ or' on a grill over. a
fire when we camp. Don't forget to double wrap to.avoid
burning. Try some of the options for a change!, .
2 potatoes (scrubbed and sliced)
1-2 carrots (sliced)
i 1 onion (sliced)
1 /4 ib: hamburg (packed into a ball) •
.salt/pepper to taste . ' •
1 /4. can tomato soup (spoon onto_top).
! • Place all ingredients into greased tinfoil (shiny side in).
Wrap up tight and place over fire or BBQ till -tender (about
45min:). Turn frequently. •
Options:
- Use BBC) sauce instead of tomato soup •

= Make a meat ball with hamburger, onion soup, bread
crumbs, eggs, ketchup to spice up the mat
- Add other vegetables like celery, zucchini,
mushrooms -

• 'ZURICH --Tire past two weeks have been busy fol those attending play
ground. They worked on signs. a barn .and animal 'sculptures fora float to
, put in the Zurich•Fair Parade.
The children also enjoyed playing with homemade -"tnagic Hind''; putting.
on a magic shciw and visiting Parkside Restaurant for a tour and compli-
mentary hotdogs. • • •

Bctwcen stories. songs and games. the children made pinwheels, string
sculptures. hand puppets and other crafts:
Last week's highlight was the discovery of an alien egg (watermelon)
that was in the hush behind the arena. •

Zurich Playground will he holding a.yard sale next Saturday, August 9 to
raise mbney for the program. Look for tables at the Zurich Arena parking.

Floating fun

Friday. The two were among 40 Exeter Playground kids that
tried their hand at boat making.
The fireworks begin at dusk at the arena park alea.and at. 9. p.m. there
will be a casino at thc community centre.

at the bean festival kitchen on Victoria Street. '
The barbecue pork chop and bean dinneis will be served from II a.m. to
7 p.m.
Entertainment on the outdoor stage will• be going on all -afternoon. A
dance in the arena will begin at 9 p.m.
-The antique car show will be on display at the arena grounds.. ,
Hockey registration is being held at the, Zurich arena this Thursday, Au-
gust 7 from 7. to -9 p.m. and again on August 9 from .10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bring along any old unwanted trophies to be made over for the children.

August 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at thc home'of their daughter Laurie and Phil
Erb on Main Street West, outdoors, or at St. Peters Lutheran Church Hall
if it rains.
A surprise birthday party was held for Aimee Rau on Saturday at the
home of Jackie and Craig Clausius. The actual date of her birthday is Au-
gust 9.
Happy birthday wishes go to Mozart Gelinas Sr. on August 7 and to Car-
rie Eybergen on August 8.
Bob and Donna Hamather of Hensall celebrated their 40th anniversary

The annual LaPorte family picnic was held on July 27 in Varna..
An 87th birthday party was held at the home of Jim and Carol -Sweeney
in London on August 2 in honor of his dad, Bernard Sweeney. It was also
a family reunion.
About 50 relatives came from Kitchener,. Zurich, western Canada,
U.S.A., Dornoch, Oakville, London, Belleville and Kingsville. They en-
joyed a luncheon, singing and reminiscing. .
Lewis and Marlene Gingcrich•recently holidayed at a cottage in Kings-
bridge at Birch Beach.
While they were there, son Richard and Monica Gingerich and daughter
Hannah spent a few days with them. •--
- Gary and Betty Flaxbard of Kitchener spent Sunday and Monday visit-
ing with his parents Earle and Anne Flaxbard were the Civic holiday.
Danny Schilbe and two children Chuck and Chris from Edmonton spent
the past two weeks visiting with his parents Len and Delores Schilbe and
relatives in the arca.
' Happy anniversary wishes go to Mike and Kim Ryckman of Dashwood,
who are Celebrating their.tenth anniversary on August 8.
