Great weather for Zurich fair
ZURICH - The Zurich Fair=s

_who was a member of. one of- the
road hockey teams.
•The weather. during the weekend
helped to make the annual Zurich
Fair successful,. although the Direc-
tors would like to see the conal resi
dents making a greater effort to at

The official opening. of the fair •
was held Friday evening: Vice pres
ident of the Zurich Agricultural So-
ciety,, Paul • Klopp, acted as thair-
pIan. Those taking- part were -
Dwayne Laporte, Reeve of Zurich,
Jame'. Luv, Reeve -of Hay

Directorof the Ontario Association
of Agricultural Societies sent their
greetings as they were unable to be-

program of youth talent followed
the opening ceremonies. •
Cloudy skies Saturday morning
threatened the cancellation of some

in Zurich 'So the fair went on. :The
parade. led by the Dashwood-
Seaforth Band; had some humorous
entries and some local businesses
put- in entries. A few antique cars
and tractors were entered and some
modern farm machinery. ' -,
Following- the parade. -fairgoers
hastened to the Community Centre
to watch the • "Babies on- Parade"
competition .which was changed to
add mgre interest. -A cake decorat-
ing contest, was held following the
"Babies on-Parade:7 - .
In the arena. the mini -pedal frac--
tor pull competition took place.
Also the children could paint their
own t -shirt. Many fairgoers has-
tened. outside to watch the road -
hockey games. view the livestock
and visit the.petting zoo with baby
farm animals, or observe the teams_
of horses and their skilled drivers.
Also a number of local riders dis-
played their skills with their horses
in events such as potato and water-
melon races, obstacle course, barrel
and flag races. • - . ..
- Sunday's events concluded this
year's fair. A horse show with •
speed events brought exhibitors_
from London, St. Thomas, Aylmer, -
Ancaster and the surrounding areas:
Local boys. Steve and Andrew Gei-
ger : competed for prizes -in various
events. _ -
An old time Fiddlers' Jamboree e
in the Community Centre had a
good crowd. The many musicians
in attendance provide the music for
dancing. •
Rain held off for the annual Zur.., Fair parade on Saturday.
The parade, that included horses and floats by Zurich Public
School students and local service clubs, celebrated this
year's theme - Rural Challenge. The horse show was also a
popular event during the fair.
