HENSALL - Doug Hoover has turned -his passion for
cycling into a big boost for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of
Canada.
Hoover, 43, is a member of Noranda Forest MS Bike
Tour's $1,000 Club. This year's Grand Bend to London tour
on August 9 and 10 will mark his "fifth straight year in the
event. Each year Hoover raises between $1,100 and $1,300
from family, friends and colleagues (he's a London exotic
and small animal veterinarian) with some help from
corporate sponsors.
His goal again this year is to raise more than $1,000, but
he has some friendly' competition this, year. His wife Jan and
two children, Morgan, 13, and Craig, 12, will be riding in the
tour. Jan said their combined fundraising goal is $1,000.
.l
Hoover said he has many'reason why he tookup the MS
Bike Tour torch. First; he's an avid cyclist, lbgging about'4,000
km a year.. Then there's the family connectiorts-to MS -- his
I3iece.showed some symptoms siruitar to ones suffered who
have MS (she doesn't have thedisease) and a friend of the
family has MS. •
"Almost everyone knows someone with it," he said. He
then shared his, personal connection — five years ago he
displayed some symptoms similar to those who have .MS
that thankfully didn't last.. "MS has affected everybody and
most people are happy to -give."
A tour leader for the-Iast three years, Hoover said he gets a
lot of satisfaction from doing something he already loves
while doing good for others. •
"It's one of those warm, fuzzy things you can do," he said.
'I think the fundraising will hopefully eradicate this
d
ebilitating disease."

. "I go door-to-door; I go to .
businesses, I go everywhere,"
Hartman said of his fundraising
drive. "It's a good cause and I - ..
have ftin doing it."
-His number one memory of the
