During the Hensall Spring Fair, Yvette Haney was presented with a trophy for Grand Cham-
pion of Show by Ron McTaggart and Fair Ambassador Christine Bengough. The reserve win-
ner was Mike Townsend.
Young singer entertains Staffa WI

- STAFFA - Eleanor . Williams,
president of . Perth. South District,
was guest speaker at the Tweed-
smuir meeting of the Staffa Worn-
' en's Institute, held in the township
hall on June 25. She spoke about
the celebrations 'in connection to
the 100th anniversary of the Wom-
en's Institute. She asked members
how they would approach the sec-
ond century,.of W.I. and- said they
must . advertise their ` accomplish-
ments, so that others know what
they have done in this century.
- Kay Smale introduced the guest -
speaker and Verli Mahon thanked
her. -
Kiel Bromley, a member of the
Stratford Boys Choir and a great
grandson of one of the W.I. mem-
bers sang "A Whole_ New World"
and "Tomorrow" accompanied by
Marjorie-Papple. -
The group's Tweedsmuir scrap-
books were on display and several
grade six pupils from • Upper
Thames Elementary School set up -
.the projects which they had _been
working on. They included dis-
plays on Staffa, Hibbert Township, _
Dinosaurs, Mitchell, and Queen
Elizabeth, and were all most inter-
esting. -Members answered the roll
call by telling what they enjoyed
most about the 100th anniversary
pry.. .
The meeting closed with lunch _
served by -Joyce -Miller and Esther
Smale. , .•

ration at Greenway United, with
the opening of the cornerstones .af
ter •100 years.
In Rev. Putman's talk to the con-
gregation he said if we think of do-
ing something good, don't delay or
it may be too late!. Scriptures were
read by Hazel Broad.
The choir's anthem was "Glory
to the God of Kings".
In the absence of organist Norm
Abbott, the choir and congregation-
al singing was accompanied by
Lynn Tremain at the piano.
Prelude music at the first outdoor
service at Grand Bend United
Church on Sunday, June 29 was by
the Exeter Community Band with
over 20 participating. The Band
also played for the hymn singing.
Rev. R. Putman's sermon topic
was "Your faith has made you
well" with scriptures read by Edna
Frampton.
July 6 will be a special anniver-
sary service as part of the 1997 cel-
ebrations of the 125th anniversary
of the Grand Bend congregation,
the 70th anniversary of the build-
ing of Grand Bend United Church,
and a century of outdoor summer
services.
This service will celebrate the
importance of children to the life of
the church.
with several other branches_ in '
Perth South and Huron South, were
guests of Kirkton branch on Thurs•
-
day evening, enjoying an interest- _
ing program -and learning the art of
tai chi. Attending front Staffa were -
Kay Smale, Verle Mahon, Doris
Miller, Marjorie Drake, Claudette
Elliott and Joyce Miller.
Many W.L members from this
area attended_ the convention in
Hamilton.

Shipka prepares for pork barbecue
The supper is
..planned for July, 30.

SHIPKA - The family of Pat and
Jake Schroeder, Sue Anne, Sandra
and Dennis, planned a surprise gar-
den party for their parents on June
29, to honor them .on .their 40th
wedding anniversary. -- •
Pat and Jake were invited out for.
Sunday brunch by Pat's sister,
Phyllis Case: When they arrived
home, a tent was up on their lawn,
plus tables, chairs and. people. Rela-
tives: and friends numbering about
100, came from near and far. Dis-
tances travelled were from Toronto,
Kitchener, Guelph, Peterborough,
Kincardine,, Brantford, Exeter, Zu-
rich, Dashwood and Grand Bend.
Everyone enjoyed reminiscing and
visiting followed by a picnic lunch,
with wedding cake and ice cream. -
Connie Russell, daughter of
Doug and Ann, is home from .her
teaching position at Pikangikum,
north of Red Lake in northern On-
tario. Elizabeth Russell is also ' -
home,after finishing -another year at
.the University of Western Ontario.
'The annual pork barbecue will be
held July 30 at Shipka Community
Centre. Supper begins, at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available from commu-
nity members.
Recent visitors with Hugh and
Annie Morenz were Marie Chowen
of Stratford, Hazel Corbett, Hensall
and Donna Corbett of -Exeter.

stolen
GRAND BEND - Police are in-
vestigating the theft of a motorcy-
cle in the Village of Grand Bend
that occurred in the.early morning
hours of June 25. .. ' .
According to North Lambton On-
tario Provincial Police, the victim
went into a- business. on Main
Street, parking his 1985 Vamaha
motorcycle. He returned to the lo-
cation where the "cycle ,-was parked
at 2:45 a.tn. and learned it had
been stolen.

504YJ. Police ask anyone who
• sees a motorcycle fitting _this de-
scription to contact North Lambton
