Hungry bird whistles way home
A very friendly yellow
budgie called Pretty Bird
managed to get back home
again safe and sound after
being gone for eight days.
Its owner Marie Cyr, was
looking high and low for her
pet ever since it got out the
door, and was lucky to have
it found at the home of Neil
Zurich
Caramel Sweeiaey
Walker (just outside of
town) as it landed on his
shoulder, probably because
it was hungry. This talented
bird whistles, sings and even
talks!
Ladies bowling starts
The ladies' bowling league
will begin another season on
Monday September 14 at the
local alley. Teams are still
needed! So if you are in-
terested in a night out of fun,
please contact either Tony -
Bedard or myself (236-4702)
as our team, The Pin -
Poppers are the executives
this year.
The men's league will also
be starting on Tuesday
September 15.
Lutheran youth event
Seven teen agers along
with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Keller and Pastor and Mrs.
Jack Dressler spent four
days the previous week in
Kingston, going by van. tak-
ing the a Lutheran youth
event with people from all
across Eastern Canada.
The money raised for this
trip was made by the youth
group doing various projects
themselves.
Tap and jazz registration
Any child that missed the
Tap and Jazz registration at
the arena on Saturday after-
noon and are interested in
taking lessons can still do so,
by contacting Michelle
Haberer at 236-4905. Any age
from 4 years old up are
welcome. The first class will
begin the second week in
September at the arena.
Christmas in August
It• sure looked like Christ-
mas time on Sunday at the
home of Mozart and Marie
Gelinas•Sr. (all except for a
tree) when their children, in-
laws and grandchildren, (30
in all) got together to
celebrate four birthdays.
Having birthdays within the
last two weeks, were one
year old Derek Gelinas, son
of Marc, London; 12 year old
Kevin Sweeney son of Butch,
Kippen; myself Carmel; and
Brian Gelinas son of Mozart
Gelinas Jr. who was four.
The day included singing
along to music supplied by
various members of the
family, a delicious
smorgasbord supper com-
plete with cake and ice
cream and a whole lot of
presents. It was also nice to
have Dave and Melissa Beer
home from Mission B.C.
The 15th Annual Geiger
Reunion was held on July 26
at the home of Larry and
Janet McClinchey of
Vanastra. The afternoon was
spent in clot -chat, and a
series of games conducted
by the Beynan family.
Over 50 sat down to a pot-
luck supper supervised by
Helen Geiger, Romayne
McClinchey and Elaine Col-
quhoun. A vote of thanks was
extended to Larry and Janet
for their hospitality.
The next reunion is to be
held at the Colquhoun's
home near Staffa.
Conservatory results
The following pupils of
Mrs. Dorothy Stade, have
recently received their
marks from 'the Royal
Conservatory of Music of
Toronto. Grade 2
Rudiments, Jacqui Taylor
honours, Martha Klopp,
Pass. Grade 6 piano Mrs.
Marie Deichert, Honours.
Becky McKinley also wrote
Grade 2 Rudiments and her
marks will be announced
later when they arrive from
Nova Scotia.
Joseph's Hospital. Proud
parents are Kim and Ron
Crete, RR 1, Zurich.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller
spent last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Neil Walker at their
cottage on Partridge Lake,
north of Parry Sound, and
reported having nice
weather and were able to do
some fishing.

DeMooy returned home
Monday after visiting for 11
days, 'son Henry in Victoria
and relatives, in La ley and
the Vancouver area. Then on
to Edmonton were they
attended the wedding of
their son on Saturday,
August 29, Abram DeMooy
Jr. to. Jacqueline Admiral
and spent four days there.

Montreal spent last week

were married on Saturday,
August 29 at Carmel
Presbyterian Church in Hen-
sall with dinner and recep-
tion held at the Hensall Com-
munity Centre. Doug is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Eckel, Zurich and Betty
Lynn is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Glenn Koehler,
Hensall.
Also congratulations to
John (Jay) Schwartzen-
truber and Sarah Pimperton
who were married at the
United Church in Exeter on
Saturday with their dinner
and reception held at the
Rec Centre. The groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Orlen Schwartzentruber of
Zurich.
Best wishes for a speedy
recovery are extended to
Mrs. Myrtle Hay who is a
patient in S t . Joseph's
Hospital.
Mrs. Theresa Stark and
her niece. Louise Regier
spent a week in Calgary
Alberta visiting with the
former§ son and family, Tim
and Heather Stark and two
boys and the latter's
brother, Richard and Janet
Regier and family. Also en-
joyed seeing various places
as Banff and Lake Louise.
They arrived home last
'Wednesday tired, as it took
them 17 hours due to a plane
delay.
Jane Oesch and Carrie
Sweeney enjoyed last week
camping near Pembroke at
Camp Mishawa where they
had a lot of fun and made
several new friends.

and Doreen Dietrich who
celebrated their 25th wed-
ding anniversary on Sunday
August 30 with a family
dinner at the Friar's Cellar
in London.

a girl Melissa born recently.

The second bridal shower
was held on Sunday at St.
Boniface school gym for
Rose -Mary Meidinger for
approx. 35 relatives, mostly
members of the Ducharme
family, as she is the fianpee
of Gerard Ducharme. She
received many lovely gifts
and all en joye4 a nice lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. David Jen-
nings of Rio, Wisconsin
visited.with friends, Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Breakey from Fri-
day to Monday of this past
week.

Don and Betty Oke return-
ed home after a lovely two
week vacation, with their
son Wayne and daughter-in-
law, Debbie Oke in Calgary.
Al and Linda Moran and
daughter from Toronto spent
the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan
Gascho. Returning home
with them was Linda's
sister, Maura for a week or
so.
Kevin and Kim Sweeney
spent from Sunday night to
Tuesday with their grand-
mother, Mrs. Evelyn
Schroeder.
A lovely three week trip
was had by Lloyd (Ted) and
Sadie Klopp to Scotland,
visiting with the latter's
motherandseveral members
of her family. Also enjoyed
seeing, the Isle of Skye and
various other places. They
had a pleasant flight both
coming and going.
Reeve Fred Haberer and
his wife Audrey attended an
association of municipalities
of Ontario conference for
three days last week, held in
Toronto at the Royal York.
They found it was very infor-
mative.

Holy Communion was
observed on Sunday
In her message Rev. Laing
again based her . talk on
Paul's letter to the'
Colossians. We must be
rooted in Christ before the
church can be built up. Paul
admonished the Colossians
to be filled with
thankfulness. Are we always
thankful for our many
blessings?
Our sympathy is with Mrs.
Hey. whose daughter
Mildred Donovan passed
away last Sunday.
Mrs. Myrtle Hay is in St.
Joseph's Hospital London.
