Golden Glimpses
All the excitement of the
Bean Festival is over and
now everyone can relax until
the next big event.
The Ladies Auxiliary had a
beautiful quilt on which they
were selling tickets. The
draw was made earlier in
the afternoon than planned
because of being sold out of )
tickets. The lucky winner
was Pat Rondeau, 820 Lon-
don Road, Sarnia. Needless
to say, she was a very happy
person and travelled back to
Zurich on Sunday to claim
her prize. The auxiliary wish
to thank all who bought
tickets and also all who
patronized their food booth
at the festival..
The sympathy of residents
and statt is extended to the
family of the late Mrs. Mae
Foster, a resident in the
Blue Water Rest Home
Apartments.
The ladies of the com-
munity and Auxiliary
members are reminded that
the fall and winter program
for the auxiliary will com-
mence on Tuesday evening,
September 1 at 7:00 p.m. at
the home. The program will
begin with entertainment
and refreshments for the
residents followed by the
business part of the meeting.
On Thursday, September
24, Geri Fashions will be set-
ting up a display of clothing
for both men and women
here at the home. This is the
third year these ladies have
been here. They have a good
variety of clothing especial-
ly designed for seniors and
disabled persons.
Residents who were out
visiting during the week
were Mrs. Beatrice
Overholt, Mr. and Mrs.
William Sillery, Mrs. Inez
McEwen, Mr. Harold Thiel,
Mr. Gordon Bloch and Mrs.
Matilda Tetreau.
Bingo was played on Fri-
day evening followed by

Power surges
for marriage
The equivalent of one
million TV sets were swit-
ched on across Ontario in the
early hours of July 28 for the
Royal wedding, according to
Ontario Hydro figures. By 6
a.m. power demands were
about 300,000 kilowatts above
normal, almost enough to
supply the needs of a city the
size of London, Ont. "We
haven't seen an increase like
that since Tiny Tim got
married on the Johnny
Carson show," said Hydro
spokesman.
A hydro voltage reduction
test, orginally scheduled for
July 21, was postponed two
days after concerns were
expressed by organizers of
the economic summit con-
ference in Ottawa. The
organizers felt that the test,

Playground winds
up with safari trip
On Monday we went on the
trip that we had worked so
hard for and looked forward
to for so long! The trip to
African Lion Safari was
great!
Everything from the
animals to the weather co-
operated well with us. We
arrived home about 5:30
p.m. with stories for our
families about the animals
such as the lions, cheetahs
and elephants as well as the
boat and train rides we went
on. We all agree it was ex-
cellent!
Tuesday saw us on a tour
of Dorothyand Ken Breakey's
rock. collection. Marc
Clansius and Tracy Fisher
won the door prizes- hand
made rings! Thanks again!
After that we were back at
the arena making candles
and roller skating.
On Wednesday we
celebrated our birthdays.
After singing "happy bir-
thday" to ourselves we
devoured the cup cakes we
made ourselves! •
We had another chance to
stuff our faces on Thursday
when we ate corn -on -the -cob
at Heather's.
All summer Lori and
Heather planned activities
and the schedule. The last
day of playground - Friday -
was our day. We all wrote
down four activities that we
enjoy and these were pulled
from a hat. It kept the
leaders on their toes! We did
everything from painting to
the gong show! We stopped
only to have a pop break.
All too soon 4:00 p.m. came
per cent across the elec-
tricity system, could affect
delicate communications
equipment used during the
conference. Voltage
reduction tests are carried
out in winter and summer to
gauge the effects on the
electricity system. A five per
cent voltage cut results in a
saving of about 400,000
',,;;owatts. No problems were
experienced during the July -
23 test.
and we were singing our
theme song for the last time
together. Couldn't we have
just one more week?!
Junior
Monday at Rockton Safari
was another new experience
for us. The monkeys clim-
bing all over the bus and the
giraffe staring in at us were
fascinating. After gulping
down our lunch we were
ready to hit the midway, so
we did!
We want to thank our
chaperons -you were a great -
help.
We had another special
guest with us on the trip and
for the rest of the week. Even
though our new friend
Andrea was blind she en-
joyed playground and we
enjoyed her very much!
On Tuesday Aimee Gelinas
brought us a specisl treat.
Home-made cookies were
enjoyed by all!
Wednesday we (the
budding chefs of Zurich)
baled birthday cup cakes!
Before blowing out the
candles on them after the
party we each made a wish.
Wishes for everything from a
new baby sister to a new
trans -am were made! Sorry
I can't help you kids!
Everyone loves a corn
roast! Especially if there's
lots of butter and salt. That's
the way it was on Thursday.
Our last day of playground
was a bright and sunny one.
We drew pictures of the
things we like to do and they
pulled out of a hat It was fun!
Something we didn't plan on
though was looking for a
treasure chest. When we
finally did find the chest we
snatched up the precious.
load- pop. The cool drink was
welcome!
At .11:45 a.m. we looked
around and saw all our
friends that we spent the
summer with. The sad part
was that we wouldn't be all
together again when Monday
morning rolled around.
Oh, well, the start of
Playground 1982 is only ten
months away!
