Decision in favor of annex
Continued from front page
event, nor any intention on
behalf of Hensall to insist
that this be done. The cost of
such hooking up would be
substantial, and since the
present systems are ade-
quate, there is absolutely no
necessity that it be done.
Concerns were expressed
as well about mail delivery.
The evidence of the post-
master at Hensall clearly
removes fear that rural
delivery to the four
residences at the south end
of Lot 19 will be affected.
A tentative proposal had
been made to Hensall about
a proposed Plan of Subdivi-
sion that might be developed
in Lot 19. Any concerns
about such a proposal are at
this time premature. The
lands are not yet in the
Village of Hensall nor has
any application been made
. to the Minister of Housing
for draft approval of such a
plan. If and when such an
application for approval of a
Plan of Subdivision is made,
all its ramifications can be
considered. If anyone is con-
cerned about such a propos-
ed plan, methods are provid-
ed by the -Planning Act
which allow full• and com-
plete examination of such
proposals.
PICTURE IN THE PAPER - - Most anxious to have his picture
in the paper for the anniversary celebrations was Robert Hoff-
man. So here it is.
Recycling info
center opens
Canada's first recycling
information service has been
opened by the Ontario
Recycling Information
Centre in Toronto.
The centre's staff will
answer, by telephone or by
mail, inquiries from
throughout the province on
how to recycle household
waste such as newspaper,
cans and bottles. The staff
will also be able to provide
information on local
recycling programs, answer
questions about waste
reduction and recycling and
supply guidelines for setting
up new recycling programs.
The centre, located at 41
Laird Drive, Toronto, M4G
3T4 can be reached by
calling 1-800-2684100 (toll-
free) . Toronto region callers
should phone 423.6655.
Police and fire protection
for the parcelsto be annexed
are adequate. The residents
of Lot 19 will benefit from
lower Hydro rates than they
now pay if they become a
part of Hensall.
Though the annexed lands
are primarily good
agriculture land, Class 1 and
2, the Board accepts the
comments set out in Section
4C.5, page 21 of the Food
Land Guidelines which
recognizes .that "all other
growth and development
cannot and should not stop".
It was pointed out that most
of the land in the County of
Huron is Class 1 and 2 and
that that County must have
some urban type develop-
ment.
Perhaps the most defined
concern expressed by the
objectors was that they
might lose the bussing ser-
vice now available to
students attending local
schools. If this service were
no longer available, the
children might be forced to
walk along Highway number
4. a busy and dangerous road
for any pedestrian. The
Board is satisfied from the
evidence given by the Direc-
tor of Education of Huron
County and by the wording of
the Huron County Board's
policy statement that buss-
ing will continue for school
children until reasonable
alternative safe routes are
available away from
Highway number 4, which
would allow the children to
walk in safety to the schools.
The Board is satisfied that
the end result of the annexa-
tion would be for the benefit
of all concerned.
Therefore the Board
orders that those portions of
the Township of Hay which
are described in Schedules
"A" and "B" hereto at-
tached and shown on plans
Schedules "Al" and "B1"
hereto attached shall, as of
January 1, 1982 be annexed
to the Village of Hensall.
The Board's Order in this
matter shall not issue until
28 days after the mailing of
copies of this decision.
