Saturday events were kicked off with the fair parade. An estimated crowd of 800 gathered in the village to watch. The fair queen led the parade, followed by the runner-up and contestants and a band and floats from various local companies and organizations. A full slate of activities • "ran Saturday afternoon with a baby show, wrist wrestl- ing, pet show, and the midway featured, along with competition in school children's arts, livestock, produce, cooking and han- diwork. Though a little rain delayed the evening's western horse show, there was a good attendance for the last event of the 177th edition of Zurich's annual fair. Winners at this year's fair included: Parade winners: best costums, Scott Merner; comic float, Edward Meidinger, Mark Laporte, Pat, Greg and Derek Overholt; theme float, Zurich Ag society, first; Tony Bedard, second, Zurich Women's Institute, third; Bayfield fair, fourth. Best business float: Village Floral; A B Printing, se- cond; Don's Food Market, third; Hay Mutual Fire In- surance, fourth. Children's club floats: Zurich playground, first, 4-H clubs, second. Best comic couple went to Nadien Smith and. Mary Jo Meidinger; decorated bicycle awards went to Kim Redick, Natalie Brokenshire, James Scott Hay, and Craig Redick. Tricycle awards went to Alicha Crete, Dana Dawn Rowan, Bobbie Lynn Snell. Of 19 entries in the wrist wrestling, sponsored by Molson's awards went to: Men's heavy: Stefan Orenchuk, Dan Turkheim. Men's medium: Ron Oesch, Paul Shanks. Men's light: Jeff Forrester, Jack Forrester. Women's medium: Eleanor Weigand. Women's light: Eleanor Weigand and Val Minhin- nich. Ten pets were entered in Saturday's pet show. Winners were: Rabbits; David Thiel, Jody Laporte. Emery baechler of Goderich took 10 firsts in pigeons. In the .Women's section, Anne 'Dalmage of Londesboro took 22 firsts, seven seconds, and six thirds. -to win a Simpson Sears award. Mrs. Dalmage also won the nine firsts in rabbit livestock competition. Carol Anne Rostell of Kippen was named 1981 champion cook with 14 firsts,- seven seconds and - two thirds. Council busy with resolutions Continued from front page said he did not believe in a plan proposed by Leamington which would gear mortgage rates to in- come. The resolution was defeated. The Blue Water rest home will be advised that the com- munity centre is available for emergency ac- comodations. In a national emergency Thiel said, "if that place falls. (the Blue Water home) the community centre will be long gone." Haberer said the centre was available for anyone to use and the residents would be welcome if a fire or some other emergency limited the home's use. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL SHOW — Students and teachers at the vacation Bible school held hod a program Thursday evening to end the school.
