Tavern team wins in Clinton
Over the past weekend the
Dominion Tavern and D.J.'s
of the Zurich Rec League
competed in ,the 2nd annual
Clinton Fastball Tourna-
ment, with the Tavern boys
for the second consecutive
year bringing home the "A"
trophy and $175 in prize
money.
Also for the second year in
a row, Dominion pitcher
Brian Hodgins was named
"most valuable player in
the tournament.
In their first game, the
Tavern triumphed by a score
of 8-1 over Lobb's Caseys of
Clinton. Leading the way for
the winners was Richard
Schilbe with a double and
two singles, Kevin McKin-
non with two singles, Wayne
Meidinger and Brian
Hodgins with one hit each
and Jeff O'Brien with a tri-
ple. Winning pitcher Brian
Hodgins allowed three and
recorded nine strikeouts.
In their next game, the
Dominion Tavern recorded a
13-2 victory over the Les
Pines club of Exeter. Randy
McKinnon lead the
onslaught with a home run,
triple and a double, Mark
Regier was next with two
doubles and a triple, Jeff
O'Brien followed with a
single, double and triple,
Wayne Meidinger had a
home run and a double next
came Ken Fenwick with a
double and Garry Kiehler,
Kevin McKinnon and Brian
Hodgins with singles each.
Brian Hodgins again was the
winning hurler as he allowed
two hits and had 10
strikeouts.
The Tavern crew then
received a bye 3 to the "A"
final as a result of their run
differential of 23 runs for
and only 3 against.
The D.J.'s also of the
Zurich League reached the
"A" final as a result of an 8-
2 victory over Goderich
Township, a 7-3 decision
over the Hensall Legion and
a 4-1 victory over the
Travellers of Seaforth.
In the decision over
Seaforth, D.J. hurler Bill
Hodgins had a perfect game
for 61/3 innings but with the
aid of 2 hits the Travellers
were able to score their only
two runs of the game in the
bottom of the 7th.
As a result of their victory
over Seaforth, this set the
stage for an all -Zurich final
between the two arch -rivals.
The final was the best
played game of the whole
tournament, as the Domi-
nion Tavern team winning
pitcher and tournament
MVP Brain Hodgins held the
D.J's to three hits while
recording eight strikeouts.
Losing hurler Cliff
Gingerich allowed the
tavern only six hits while
striking our one.
Leading the way for the
winners was Pat Bedard
with a double and single.
Richard Schilbe with a dou-
ble; Wayne Meidinger with
two singles and Randy
McKinnon with a single.
