"Over a four-year period
from 1980 to 1084, the
preparation, collection, data
processing and publication
of the 1981 Census is ex-
pected to coat about $e5
million," says Statistics
Canada spokesman David
Roy. This works out to about
$12 per household, a saving
of about 20 percent from the
last major Census -In 1971.
The 198LCensus has been
streamlined. There are 25
percent fewer questions than
in the 1976 Census, and only
one in five households in-
stead of one in three will be
required to answer the
longer 46 -question form.
Four fifths of householdswill
fill out a 12 question form.
By law, all information
provided on the Census
questionnaire is strictly
confidential and can be used
only for statistical purposes.
Severe penalties of up to
$1,000 in fines or up to six
months imprisonment or
both are provided for anyone
who breaches the con-
fidentiality of the Census.
"The Census is important
for governments,
businesses, labour unions,
churches and other
organizations which affect
the daily lives of Canadians.
That is why so many
organizations are making
their employees, clients or
members aware of the 1981
Census, to ensure that they
have the best passible data to
plan their undertakings,"
said Edward Pryor, 1981
Census Manager.

The showers we are
receiving should freshen up
the lawns and give the gar-
dens a good start. The plants
which the residents of
Maplewoods here and also at
the home have been growing
in the greenhouse are now
ready for transplanting in
the flower beds.
The residents enjoyed hav-
ing the C.G.I.T. girls from
the Exeter United Church on
Tuesday evening. They
provided a musical
programme during the
supper hour and also served
the desserts which they
brought with them.
Next Tuesday afternoon,
June 2, the Ladies Auxiliary
will be holding their regular
monthly meeting at 2 p.m.
Following the business part
of the meeting, the residents
are invited to join them for
Gllnipses
the annual_ picnic. A
programme will be
presented and a picnic
supper will be served.
The sympathy of residents
and staff is extended to the
family of the late Mrs.
Alberta Lawson. -
Residents who were out
visiting recently. were Mrs.
Bella Snell, Mrs. Josephine
Thompson', Mrs. Ruby
Hoggarth, Mrs. Mabel Ja-
ques and Mrs. Beatrice
Overholt.
Bingo was played on Fri-
day evening followed by
refreshments.
The Sunday evening
chapel service was con-
ducted by Rev. Stan
MacDonald of Hensall
United Church. Mrs. Helen
Goddard presided at the
organ during the service.
