District 23, Brussels, made her official visit. Following a delicious meal at the Hensall Bean Pot restaurant the evening con- tinued at the local hall. The guests from Brussels lodge were welcomed _the Hensall Bertha McGregor members and Mrs. Thomas was presented by Mrs. Hazel Corbett and welcomed by noble -grand Bertha MacGregor and members. Vice -grand Mrs. Gladys Coleman reported for the visiting committee and Mrs. Hazel Corbett reported for the finance comittee. The treasurer Mrs. Ed Corbett, gave a very gratifying report and the booth sales report. It was announced the members will hold a dessert euchre on Wednesday April 29 at 1:30 p.m. The DDP gave an in- teresting message on the symbols of the order: friendship, love and truth, and urged the members to visit the sick, activate sociability, and to support the president's project. Following the meeting the entertainment committee were in charge when Mrs. Dorothy Parker gave two readings "Monkey's Jam- boree" and ''Not Understood". Mrs. Hazel Corbett gave readings "Three Runs Willie" and "The Toast". A social hour was enjoyed in the lower hall when the birthday cake was cut by Mrs. Thomas. The members are invited to Brussels on Tuesday April 14 to open the Morning Star Lodge when the assembly president Mrs. Myrtle Patterson will be the guest. This meeting will be preceeded by a banquet in the Presbyterian Church, Brussels. Bank officer entertained Prior to retirement, Miss Mary Goodwin, long time employee of the Staff of the Bank of Montreal, Hensall, was entertained with dinner at the Blue Fountain Restaurant in Clinton last week by the manager Mr. Eric Luther and staff'of the Bank. Unit IV Easter meeting The Easter meeting of Unit IV was held at the manse of the Hensall United church on April 2 at 2:30 p.m., with the leader Mrs. Nan Britton presiding. She opened the meeting with 'an article on The Lenten season. Following" the singing of a hymn, Mrs. Jessie Armstrong conducted the devotional with Mrs. Nellie Riley reading passages from Luke 23 and 24. Mrs. Armstrong then spoke on the beauty of spirit and Easter being the greatest event in history. She spoke of the aw- ful and of _ the crucifixion Easter Sunday be- ing the brightest day of all. She said "He died that we might live". Before closing she spoke of Miss Della Reece the great singer from the U.S. and her thankfulness to her God and the great work of Dr. Drake of University Hospital, London where her life was spared. ,•';i1t•;. tIt!itf This was followed by the Lord's prayer in unison. "When I survey the Won- drous Cross" was sung and Mrs.Shirley Luther had charge of the study and her message was Jesus and why He came. She said Jesus was a two fold man God and man and she made many quotes from John's gospel. She itooke of the Last Supper and gave a splendid message on Jesus' life. Mrs. Nan Britton and Mrs. Luther sang a lovely duet, The Unveiled Christ. The minutes were read and the roll call taken by Mrs. Dorothy Mickle, with 22 present including guests. Mrs. Mickle was also pianist for the meeting. Business followed with many events coming up in the fUUture. Mrs. Rena Caldwell, social convener, spoke' of coming events and made plans for the help at the Beef Bar-B-Que April 22. Church hosts Boychoir A delightful variety of music was presented at Hen- sall United Church on Sun- day evening April 5 when`the Stratford Boy Choir came to ITensall. Several members are from Hensall-Exeter area and a high quality presentation was given un- der director, Gordon Scott. Traditional church music opened the evening followed by more modern music by contemporary composers, and finished with folk songs from various countries. Solists throughout the even- ing were, John Erb singing "Whe'er You walk" by Handel, David Buckle took the solo part in "Panis Angelicus" by Cesar Franck, accompanist Geoff Thomson played the trumpet concert in E flat by Hadyn (two movements), and a young pianist, Robin McKen- zie, who played three pieces brilliantly. The choir is composed of boys nine years of age and over and are planning a trip to England in July 1982, to participate in the Shrewsbury Music Festival, of international fame. The choir was sponsored by the Hensall United choir and all profits will go towards their new choir gowns. United Church The service at Hensall United Church on Sunday__ April 5 was conducted by Rev. Stanley McDonald who completed his series of ser- mons on Pilgrims of the Road with, "Get Your Bag Packed for Eternity". The characters and qualties that prepare us for eternal life, and for tomorrow, should be present in our lives now. Instruc- tions for these qualities are in the Bible, written by St. Paul who compares onr preparedness with being prepared for battle and hav- ing on the armour of God. We need the belt of truth, the breast plate of righteousness or integrity, shoes of the Gospel, of Peace, the shield of faith and the helmet of salvation. Thus prepared, we can get on with God's work today and be prepared for tomorrow and leavethe bag packed for eternity. The children were shown an Income Tax return and told as we are given a book of instructions for filling it in, so God gives us a book of instructions for life, the Bi- ble. The choir sang a beautiful anthem "Jesus the very thought of Thee" by T.L. de Victoria. The service opened with gospel singing and flowers in the sanctuary were from the wedding of Ron Keller and Jean Hull and some in loving memory of Earl Drover of the Chiselhurst congregation. Katy Mann greeted worshippers at the front door and ushers were Brad Buchanan and Dwight Con- si tt. Singing group coming The singing group called the Watchmen from Kitchener will be at Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sun- day evening May 3. Please keep this date in mind. The ladies are holding a "Daf- fodil Tea" and "Bake Sale" on Wednesday April 15 beginning at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. • Carmel Presbterian Rev. Kenneth Knight con- ducted the service in Carmel Presbyterian church on Sun- day speaking on the subject "Violence is Golden". Mrs. Dorothy Taylor presided at the organ for the service of song. Choir prac- tise will be held on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. All -choir members or anyone wishing to help with the Easter music are urged to attend. Hensall cubs The Hensall Cubs were hosted by the Clinton Cub pack on Thursday evening. They had a club car rally of wjiich Tim Brock of Hensall came out victorious. The Cubs were served refreshments before retur- ning home. McDonald closed the meeting with prayer. A social hour followed and lunch was served by Mary Roobol, Shirley Luther and Mabel Parker, the com- mittee in charge. Beavers visit store Hensall Beavers and leaders took an interesting trip to Knechtel's grocery store. Mrs. Nixon led .an infor- mative tour of the different areas. The boys were delighted with their com- plimentary treat at the end of the evening. This spring the Beavers made a growing 'project, which they are tending and they are reporting each week on how .well the seeds are germinating and grow- ing. In the next couple of weeks the Beavers will be making projects and with their moms' help treats, which will be delivered to the Queensway residents for Easter.
