HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1981-04-02, Page 7Separate school team wins in Seaforth A Zurich junior team won the B championship at the annual Knights of Columbus hockey tournament in Seaforth on the weekend. The tournament featured SPORTS 0 SPOT by Marlene and Tony Bedard teams from .area separate schools in' junior, grades .,5.'� �' r'?". .'5��."•�:;::�.... ... ?!4'�f •f��:i :;��f<v`'f!t%if%`ffr three to five, and senior, grades six to eight, categories. Teams from Zurich, Seaforth, Dublin, St. Columban and Mt. Carmel competed. The Zurich juniors lost their first game 7-1 to Dublin and moved to the B side of the tournament. Dwayne Overholt scored the lone goal for Zurich. The second game saw Zurich beat St. Columban for 5-4 for the E championship. Derek Overholt scored twice, Dwayne Overholt, Randy Regior and Todd Laporte scored once again. The total pintail for Zurich' was 8157, but St. Marys came on top with 8404 pins. On Thursday March 26,St. Marys teams came to Zurich to bowl. Zurich's team had total pintail of 7882, but it wasn't enough, because St. Marys pulled ahead with a difference of 373 pins giving them a total of 8255 pins. The total of the two days was St. Marys 16659 pins and Zurich 16039 pins. Tony Bedard would like to thank all those who visited or sent cards and best wishes during his recent hospital stay. The Zurich seniors didn't fare as well. They lost their first game to St. Columban 3-2. Greg Overholt, assisted by Mike Bedard, and Paul Bedard assisted by Mark Laporte, scored for Zurich. Zurich also lost their se- cond game, the senior B championship. Seaforth won it, 6-4. Paul Bedard scored three of the goals and assisted or. Mike Laporte's goal. Other assists went to Laporte Greg Overholt, Ed Thusf and Gerry Smith. The A side of the senior tournament was won by Mt Carmel. HENSALL-ZURICH GAME — Zurich defeated Hensall 1-0 in the second round of tournament play in Zurich, Saturday.
