Peewees win,
Bantams tied
The Zurich peewees won
their best -of -five playoffs
with Huron Park, three
games to one.
The last two games were
played in Huron Park with
Zurich winning both. The
first game in Huron Park
was a 5-2 victory for the
visitors and the second game
was 4-3.
In the first game, Zurich
opened the scoring inthefirst
period on goals by Mark
LaPorte and Mark Johnston.
Marc Clausius assisted on
Johnston's goal, Laporte's
was unassisted.
The second period was
scoreless and it wasn't until
the 50 second mark of the
third period that either team
got on the scoreboard. Ron
Van Massenhoven scored for
Huron Park to close the
margin to 2-1. Robbie Hoff-
man scored for Zurich at the
3:26 mark with the assist
going to Mark LaPorte. Jeff
Hoffman scored the next
Zurich goal on a pass from
Mark Johnston to increase
the lead to 4-1. Don
McKinley rounded out the
Zurich scoring on a pass
from Mark Johnston. Huron
Park got one more from
Mike McCallum.
In the last game, Huron
Park jumped out to a 1-0 lead
on a goal by Ron Van
Massenhooven at the 2:33
mark of the first period. Paul
Bedard evened the score
with an unassisted goal at
the 4:42 mark. Before the
period was over, Huron Park
was out in front 2-1 on a goal
by Steve McIntyre. There
was no scoring in the second
period.
In the third period, Huron
Park increased their lead to
3-1 on a goal by Dave Smith.
Zurich got a goal back from
Marc Clausius with assists
going to Mark LaPorte and
Steven Consitt. Mark
LaPorte scored the tying
goal at 11:44 with the assists
going to Steven Consitt and
Marc Clausius. The game
then went into overtime.
At the 12:48 mark of the
first overtime period Paul
Bedard scored an unassisted
goal to wrap up the series for
the peewees.
Bantams lose
The Zurich bantams lost 2-
0 to the Hensall team to even
the series at two games a
piece.
The first two periods were
scoreless, but at the 7:53
mark of the third period,
Hensall's Randy Bilcke
scored what proved to be the
winner. David Skea, assisted
on the goal. Todd Goudie
scored an insurance goal
with assists going to Todd
Caldwell and John O'Brien.
On March 7, the Zurich
bantams were in a tour-
nament in Southampton
where they dropped both
games they played.
The first game was against
Durham, which they lost 4-1,
Bob Snell scored the lone
goal with assist going to
Bryan Kading and Rick
Keupfer.
In the second game, they
played Elma-Logan and lost
by a 5-2 score. The goal -
getter was Derek McKinnon
and assisting on his goals
were Bob Snell and Bryan
Kading.
