Zurich chamber holds Rural -Urban night
Members of local township
councils were on hand for the
Zurich Chamber of Com-
merce Rural -Urban night,
Thursday.
The night is when each.
member brings a guest or
guests. Huron County
warden Fred Haberer, who
is a member of the chamber,
brought sir guests with him.
They were Lloyd Mousseau,
reeve of Hay township and
the deputy -reeve of Hay,
Lionel Wilder; Paul Steckle,
reeve of Stanely; Bob Bell
reeve of Tuckersmith; Doug
Russell reeve of Stephen and
Alan Walper, deputy -reeve
of Stephen.
The guest smoker at the
meeting was Orville
Shewfelt from the Ontario
Milk Marketing •Board. He
showed a film on exactly
what happens to the planning
and decisions from the farm
to the board..
The organization is made
up of Ontario farmers and
the 12 -man executive is also
rhade up of dairy farmers.
Good turn -out.
for UCW meet
The March meeting of the
Emmanual U.C.W. was held
Wednesday evening, March
4- at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting was held in
the church auditorium with
a good turn out, which in-
cluded guests from
Dashwood United Church,
male and female, also some
men from our own congrega-
tion.
Group No. 2, comprised of
Eleanor Brown, Ethel
Merner, Gwyn Whilsmith
and, Ethel Meyers, was in
.charge.
The welcome to all was ex-
tended by Ethel Meyers
after a hymn was sung. The
scripture lesson was read by
Ethel Meyers in the absence
of Ethel Merner. Prayer was
said by Eleanor Brown. Mrs.
Irvin Martin favoured with a
piano selection. The offering
was received by Eleanor
Brown and Gwen Whilsmith
and dedicated by Ethel
Meyers. A hymn was sung
following prayer which was
offered by Gwen Whilsniith.
Phillippa Steckle accom-
panied for the hymns and
played a prelude of piano
selections prior to the
meeting. Courtesy remarks
were given by Gwyn
Whilsmith. ,
Miss Carol Erb was a
special guest and had the op-
portunity to renew many
acquaintances.
The local ladies then
retired to the Sunday school
hall for the business over
which -the president, Berrys
Finkbeiner, presided.
The minutes of the
previous meeting were read
and the roll call was
answered by 28 members.
There were three visitors.
Zurich United
church news
Rose Mary Scbtt read the
scripture for the morning.
In her story for the
children, Ms. Laing likened
our lives to a flashlight. The
batteries in the light made it
shine just as the Holy Spirit
in our lives helps our light or
love to shine.
In her sermon she asked
that we put God in the center
of our lives. If ego is the
center, our lives will be very
disorganized and confusing.
With God in the center
everything will fall into
place.
Wednesday March 18 and
April 1, 8, 15, Learning for
Lent for ladies continues.
Sunday March 22 the
service will be conducted by
Peter Snell.
A young fellow with money
to burn is sure to meet his
match.
A youngster may
sometimes be straightened
out by bending him over.
The treasurer's report was
adopted as read by the
treasurer, Isobel Gascho.
Each convener of the
different committees
reported on the committee's
activities. Several pieces of
business were discussed and
this part of the -meeting was
brought to a close with the
Mizpah benedication being
repeated . in unison.
Group No. 7 comprised of
Ina Neeb, Mary Clausius,
Doris Schock and Norma
Siebert 'served a delicious
lunch.
A question period followed
the film.
In regular Chamber
business, four new -members
were welcomed. They were
Mike O'Connor, Charles Erb,
Elzer Masse and Leo Masse.
The Camber also decided
that the sauerkraut supper
would be on, April 8 and the
tickets were now available.
The tickets will be - $5 for
everyone, but one ticket
could be used to feed two
children by spliting the ribs
between them. It was also
suggested that all the
members pay for their
tickets and the tickets for
their wives.
The community awareness
committee is making an
application for a grant for
the summer playground. The
staff, consisting of one
