A public meeting held to
discuss the proposed Hay
township secondary plan
learned that farmers were
concerned about increased
restrictions which might b�
placed on their land.
Zurich reeve Fred
Haberer announced he would
run for Huron County
warden.
It was learned Zurich
would be celebrating its
125th anniversary on July 3,
1981.
According to all parties,
the major obstacle in the
clearing up of the parking
problem at the corner of
Goshen Street and Highway
84 was a lack of concensus
by council.

recieved $40,000 under the
Ontario Home Renewal

The Zurich Buckeyes edg-

August 14
Residents of Hay township
along the shoreline learned
there was a good possibility
that a start on a water
pipeline from Port Blake
would be started in 1981.
A committee was ap-
pointed to begin
preparations for Zurich's
125th anniversary.
Carol Erb returned to
Afghanistan.
Crops in Huron County
were generally speaking, In
good shape according to
agricultural representative
Don Pullen.
August 21
The village was readying
itself fort, a 15th edition of
the bean festival.
Zurich council rejected
the idea of a three year term
for municipal officials and
learned that the auditorium
roof required repairs.
Mr. andMrs. Don O'Brien
and Mr. and Mrs. Doug
O'Brien returned from a
three week trip to England.
One out of three homes in
Huron County is affected by
alcohol abuse, it was learn-
ed.
Researchers at the Cen-
tralia College of
Agricultural Technology
found out that the varying of .

dramatic effect on the

squad took the A title at a
rec fastball tournament held
in Exeter. •

The Zurich Bean Festival
proved to be another
successful event with over
7000 meals being served.
October 23
On the municipal election
scene there were many sur-
prises including the decision
by Herb Turkheim not to
seek re-election to the.Huron
County board of education.
In Zurich an election would
be held for the first time in
eight years with Dan
Turkheim and Don Van
Patter going the council seat
vacated by Jim Bedard.
Stanley township had its
first election in 10 years with
elections at the reeve,
deputy -reeve and council
level. There was also a race
for council in Bayfield.
The village of Zurich gave
the okay to a new assess-
ment system which would
see some taxes increase and
other taxes decrease.
Leroy Thiel, a member of
the Zurich Hydro System for
15 years was honoured by the
Ontario Municipal Elec-
trical Association.
Board of education
trustees Herb Turkheim and .
Clarence McDonald dis-
counted statements by three
disgruntled board members
that the board is a rubber
stamp machine fora strong
administration.
The cost of recreation and
the condition of the roads
were the main topics of con-
versation at a Hay township
ratepayers meeting.
