In Zurich an election would be held for the first time in eight years with Dan Turkheim and Don Van Patter going the council seat vacated by Jim Bedard. Stanley township had its first election in 10 years with elections at the reeve, deputy -reeve and council level. There was also a race for council in Bayfield. The village of Zurich gave the okay to a new assess- ment system which would see some taxes increase and other taxes decrease. Leroy Thiel, a member of the Zurich Hydro System for 15 years was honoured by the Ontario Municipal Elec- trical Association. Board of education trustees Herb Turkheim and . Clarence McDonald dis- counted statements by three disgruntled board members that the board is a rubber stamp machine fora strong administration. The cost of recreation and the condition of the roads were the main topics of con- versation at a Hay township ratepayers meeting.
