Turn -out good for Stanley skating carnival
There was a good crowd at
the .Varna rink on Saturday
evening for the Stanley
Township skating carnival.
Prize —winners were as
follows: youngest skater -
Kimberly Taylor, daughter
of Don and Lorraine; oldest
person on skates -Mervyn
Hayter; largest family on
skates -Mac, Janet, Mary
Ellen and Mark Webster.
Winners in the costume
category were:
preschoolers -Arran Soudant,
Zurich, and Matthew Tur-

Orange lodge euchre
There were twelve tables
df euchre . at the. Orange
Lodge card party on Friday.
High and low winners of
the ladies' prizes were
Eleanor McAsh and Mabel
Reid. Three men had the
highscore-W.D. Wilson,
Frank McDonald and Harry
Baker, Harry won the cut.
Irene Glazier, playing as a
man, was low. Draw winners
were Jessie Blair, W.D.
Wilson, Jean Reid and Lorna
Johnston.

NOTICE OF
ANNUAL MEETING
The 106th Annual Meeting of the Hay
Township Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance
Company will be held in the Company Of-
fice, Zurich, on Saturday the 28th day of
February, 1981 at 2 p.m., for the presenta-
tion of the Annual Report, to elect three
directors to replace those whose terms ex-
pire, to consider revision of By -Law No. 33
re:mileage allowance, and to transact all
business as may be done at a general
meeting of the policyholders. The Directors
whose term of office expire are Howard
Datars, Dashwood; Ian McAllister, Zurich;
and Carl Turnbull, Dashwood, who are
eligible for re-election.
Please Note: By -Law No. 21 - Qualifications
of Directors (d) "Any person wishing to seek
election or re-election as a Director must file
his intention to stand for election in writing
with the Secretary of the Corporation at
least ten days in advance of an Annual
Meeting or Special General Meeting called
for the purpose of electing Directors."

Varna UCW
Stewardship was the
theme of the program and
worship service at the
February meeting of Varna
UCW which was presented
by Marg Hayter, Shirley Hill
and Elaine Stephenson. An
excellent skit on priorities
was given by Shirley and
Elaine.
Eleanor McAsh and
Margaret Hayter gave
reports on the Iuron- Perth
annual meeting at
Brucefield. Eleanor told of
the very entertaining skit put
on by the presbyterial
committee chairpersons.
One of the stars in the skit
was the talented
comedienne, Anna Keys. The
Alma College School for
Women will be held from
August 16 to 19. Marg
reported that the offering
from the meeting will be
divided euqally between
Mission and Services and
Emmanuel College. The
speaker was the minister's
wife from Monkton, Betty
Nortey, who spoke on
partners in crisis.
She is a social worker who
worked in family services
while her husband was in
Oshawa and Labrador.
Anyone who wishes to take
part in the family weekend
at Camp Menesetung should
register soon, as only ten
families can be ac-
commodated.
President Doris Wilson
announced tickets are
available from Alpha -Huron
members for a wheelchair
basketball game on Feb. 22
at F.E. Madill S.S. in
Wingham.
Sharpen up your needles,
ladies, we'll be doing a quilt
shortly.
Shirley Hiil was appointed
to the new music committee,
and Margaret Hunt and
Mary Chessell to co-ordinate
the visiting of new residents
and shut-ins.
Dinner prices were in-
creased to $5.50. An almost
new stove has been installed
in the church kitchen.
The World Day of Prayer
service will be on Thursday
evening, March 5 at Varna,
with Goshen joining us.
Sausages instead of cold cuts
will be served at the pancake
supper on March 3.
Birthdays were celebrated
this past week by Nancy
Webster, who had a house
party, and Krista McAsh who
entertained her friends with
a bowling party.
Clinton school choir
Your correspondent had
the pleasure of hearing the
Clinton high school choir
under the direction of Rob
Parr at Ontario Street
United Church on Sunday.
Hopefully the Board of
Zurich 5-2
over Hensall
The Zurich Buckeyes
travelled to Hensall last
Thursday night and came
away 5-2 winners over the
Sherwoods.
Zurich's Kim McKinnon
scored the first goal of the
game at the 6:45 mark of the
first period from Pat Bedard
and Gerald Weido . Hensall
evened the score on a power
play. The goalscorer was
Murray Connolly and assists
went to Rick Ingram and
Steve Knight. Zurich went
ahead again with less than a
minute and a half left in the
period and a goal by Mark
Merner. The assist went to
Jim O'Brien.
There was no scoring in
the second period.
Zurich got the next two
goals from Clarke and Pat
Bedard. Assists went to Ran-
dy McKinnon, Glen Zirk and
John Graham. Hensall got
one back on a goal by Rick
Ingram, assisted by Rick
Grenier and Jamie Caldwell.
Zurich finished the scoring
on a goal by Kim McKinnon,
assisted by Gerald Weido .
Education will. be able to
return music to the regular
curriculum so that more out-
of-town students can take
advantage of this musical
training.
