HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1981-02-12, Page 5Zurich women discuss fair The regular meeting of theZurich Women's Institute was held Feb. 2 in the Hay Township Hall, with 19 members and five visitors attending. Members of the committee in charge were, Mr. E. Consitt, Mrs. E. Regier and Mrs. J. Mrs. Dietrich E. Consitt was chairlady. She opened the program with the institute singing the Ode, and repeating the Mary Stewart. Collect. 0 Canada was sung, also the hymn "Faith of our Fathers", with Mrs. V. Dinnin at the piano. The gathering enjoyed the talents of Julie and Joanne UC annual meeting The annual meeting which was postponed last week, was held following the service this past Sunday after a pot luck luncheon. Rev. Barbara Laing opened the devotional with reading from Cor. 1: chapters 12 to 14. Rev. Brian Elder of Crediton was present as ministerial counsellor. John Consitt very ably chaired the meeting and Mrs. Donna Grebb recorded the minutes. The report showed, that all groups and the church itself had a successful year. New members for the business elders are: Earl Horner, Mary Jacobi, and Isabel Gascho. For the board of stewards are: Russell Grainger, Barrie Gandier, and Jim Finlay. For trustee: Art Whilsmith and Glen Neeb. Special mention and words of appreciation were ex- tended to Mr. and Mrs. Milton Oesch who have retired from the committees of business elders and stewards for many years. They have faithfully served their church on these boards. A special thank you to our pastor for her year of un- tiring and dedicated service to us, was extended. The choir and organist were also given special recognition. Members who are in the hospital are: Miss Olive O'Brien, Mrs. Marie Pask, Mrs. Edna Leibold and Mrs. Oriole Harvey. The UCW has been can- celled for the month o>S February. Upcoming events include a special series of lenten services for the churches in this area and Dashwood United church. R.K. The monthly theme education was combined with observing, the in- ternational year of the disabled, designated for 1 1 The guest speaker was Fay Blair, supervisor at Huron Hope nursery school in Dashwood. The nursery school is affiliated with South Huron Association for the Mentally Retarded. Fay was introduced by Mrs. Harold Smith, who is on staff at the nursery. By pictures and com- mentary, they presented an insight into the many wor- thwhile efforts that are put into assisting the disabled children of the area. The Citizens News, February 12, 1981 Page 5 progress these children make towards a normal life, through therapy, un- derstanding, and patience given at the nursery school is remarkable. The president Mrs. H. Hohner presided for the business. There will be a card party to be held Feb. 18, Wed- nesday. The Zurich Institute, being responsible for the list of items of the institute fair display, decided on the theme, .The Nursery. The items include: 1. Mand made crib quilt, approximately 54 inches x 36 inches. 2. Knitted sweater, bonnet and bootie set. 3. Embroidered hand made bib 4. Hand made stuffed toy. 5. Embroidered picture suitable for an infant's room. Happy birthday was sung to four members celebrating birthdays in January and February. The quilting bee will again be sponsored by the Zurich institute on March 2. Quilters are welcome. A pot luck dinner will be served for the evening meal. Can B help you" . Golden Glimpses It looks as though we shouldn't hold our breath for spring-like weather, by all reports we may be well snowed in the latter part of this week. Films were shown as usual on Monday evening followed by refreshments. We are pleased that a larger number of our Residents are showing an interest in the movies. On Tuesday evening, the Ladies Auxiliary braved the elements for a Valentine's party for our residents. Three young ladies, Anne Deichert, Sharon Thiel and Robin Rader sang and ac- companied themselves on their ukuleles. Kelly Schroeder and Roxanne Martin both played piano solos. Mrs. Annie Finkbeiner favoured with a reading and Mrs. Julie Debus sang and accompanied herself on the guitar. Following the programme, coffee and cup- cakes were served. The wintry weather has prevented our Residents from enjoying outings unless it is a necessity. Bingo was played on Fri- day evening followed by refreshments. The Sunday evening chapel service was con- ducted by Rev. Clayton Kuepfer of the Zurich Men- nonite church. Mrs. Grace Martin presided at the organ during the service. A ladies quartette consisting of Helen Gingerich, Della Gascho, Esther Gingerich and Ruth Gingerich favoured with two numbers. A flute solo was also en- joyed.
