Sherwoods lose two
Two unanswered third
period goals allowed the
Zurich Buckeyes to score a 6-
5 win over - the Hensall
Sherwoods in South Huron
hockey league play Sunday
afternoon in Zurich.
The first period was all
even with each team
scoring one goal. The
Sherwoods led 5-4 after 40
minutes of play only to have
the Buckeyes come on strong
in the -final frame.
The game was only 15
seconds old when Steve
Knight struck for the
Sherwoods on a three-way
combination with Jamie
Caldwell and Gary Koehler.
Only a minute later the
score was all tied on a
successful shot by Captain
John Graham of the
Buckeyes with assists going
to Steve Bedour and Kerry
Bedard.
At 2:06 of the second
session, Rick Ingram put
Hensall in front again on a
play started by Ken Varley
and Dwight Consitt.
Pat Bedard squared the
score again for the Buckeyes
at 11:51 as he hit the Hensall
net on passes from John
Graham and Kim McKinnon.
Bedard's goal set off a fast
scoring spree of six goals in
the last nine minutes of play.
Next came a drive by Dave
Kinsman of the Sherwoods at
13:05 with the pass provided
by Al Taylor.
A minute later Pat Bedard
registered his second goal of
the game on a pass from
Mike Clarke and the score
was even at 3-3.
The scoring pattern
changed a little with two
quick Hensall. goals. Rick
Ingram fired his second shot
of the afternoon past Kevin
Lightfoot who was in Zurich
goal filling in because of
injuries. Dave Kinsman and
Gary Davies assisted.
Dave Kinsman put the
Sherwoods two goals up at
17:51 as he converted a pass
from Ken Varley.
With only 10 seconds
remaining in the second
period, Gerald Weido
completed a three-way
passing effort with Mike
Clarke and John Graham to
cut the Hensall lead to a
single goal. -
In the third period Ron
Rader tied the score at 2:37
on a pass from Marvin
Merner and Steve Bedour
blasted the winner at 14:07

The fourth annual South
Huron intermediate hockey
league all star game is set
for the Zurich arena on
Friday night, January 23.
The top players from the
northern division of
Goderich, Zurich, Hensall
and Exeter will tackle the
best from the south group
from Centralia, Centralia
College, Parkhill and Forest.
New all-star team
sweaters will be worn by

Goderich' Big Brother
organizations and the league
itself. The league's share
will be used to pay for the all-
star sweaters.
Each team will ice tthree
goal tenders. For the north
they are Juergen Hellman,
Zurich; Dave Holmes,
Hensall and John Hayter,
Exeter. From the south the
puck stoppers will by
Murray Jamieson, Parkhill;
Kevin, Lightfoot, Centralia
•andTerry Dale, Forest.

Referees Don Appleby and
Tom Millar were busy
handing out 35 penalties, all
of the minor variety. The
Buckeyes took 18 of the calls.
In the other games this
week, the Hensall Sherwoods
lost 5-4 to the Goderich
Merchants and 6-1 to the
Forest Boyds. In the loss to
Goderich, the Sherwoods
held a 4-2 lead at one point in
the second period before
giving up three straight
goals.
Murray Connolly, Dight
Consitt, Terry Caldwell and
Gary Davies were the
sharpshooters for Hensall.,
Ken Varley picked up two
assists while Dave Kin-
sman, Lloyd Allan, Jim
Ferguson and Dwight
Consitt each helped on one
goal.
The only goal for Hensall
in the 6-1 loss to Forest came
in the first period and was
fired by Gary Koehler on a
three-way effort with Jamie
Midgets lose 5-2
The Zurich Midget D
hockey team was beaten 5-2,
in Huron Park, Saturday.
