School board
Continued from page 1
so far and while there is
some concern about the
costs, the Bill is, in place
now.
Superintendent John
McCauley said to this
. reporter following the
meeting 'that the Huron -
Perth. Catholic board has a
solid base of special eduoa-
tionprogramming withits
present general disability
classes at three schools -
primary -junior at St.
Joseph's School and fn-
termediates' at St. Michael's
'School, both in Stratford and
all grades at gt. Joseph's
School in Clinton.
He said there is a con-
tinuum of services right in
the classroom with the
teacher identifying and set-
ting the program, and if she
needs help she can go to the
special education resource
teacher in each of the 19
schools in the system (50
percent in each school). The
third step when the school
has exhausted these two
alternatives, and with the
parent's co-operation, to
apply to the Program Place-
ment and Review Com-
mittee to review the child's
needs in light of the
possibility of both changes in
program and placement.
Mrs. Posno complimented
the board on having a fairly
sophisticated special educa-
tion system at this time with
10 or 12 special education
teachers.
In other business the board
finalized the sale of a por-
table classroom at St.
Joseph's School in Clinton'to
the Clinton Kinsmen's Club
for $2,000. The portable is to
be removed from the school
property by May 15.
The next meeting of the
board will be held January
26.
Charity ride
visits Zurich
The Arkona Hill Climbers
snowmobile club visited
Zurich, Sunday, as a turn-
around point for a one
hundred mile charity ride.
Fourty-two machines
started in Arkona, stopping
for lunch and to refuel in
Zurich.
The club's president, Bill
Edwards, Watford, said he
expects the club to gather
$2,500 from pledges. The
money is to be used to help
the disabled and under
priveleged in the Arkona
area. •
Originally, Edwards said,
the club participate in
Whipper Bill Watson's Snow-
a-rama to raise funds for
provincial charities. About
three years ago, the club
decided to help out locally.
They set up an aceount and a
board of directors, separate
from the club, to administer
the monies raised.
The board has purchased
several wheel chairs and
walkers and has contributed
to charities like cerebral
palsy and the cancer society,
Edwards said.
