UCW meeting recalls past members; looks ahead
The January meeting of
the United Church Women of
the Emmanual United
Church was held Sunday,
January 11 following the
morning church service. It
had to be cancelled on
Wednesday, January 7, due
to the inclement weather.
The lunch committee com-
prised of Mary Clausius,
Doris Schoch, Ina Neeb and
Norma' Siebert served lunch
prior to the meeting.
Group 10, comprised of
Beatrice Rader, Ethel Gable
and Valera Pfile, was in
charge of the devotional part
of the meeting. Ethel _Gale
opened the meeting with a
poem, then a hymn was sung
with Beatrice Rader accom-
panying on the piano.
The group observed a two
minute silence in memory of
two members, Fern Desjar-
dine and Pearl Weirtz, who
passed away in 1980. At this
time, Donna Greb lit two
candles in their memory -and
Ethel Gable recited a Psalm
while Beatrice Rader
provided back -ground
music
The Scripture lesson and
prayer were read by Donna
Greb. A sing songwas held
with Barbara Laing leading
this.
Beatrice. Rader then took
charge and extended New

poem.
Beatrice Rader spoke on
two topics, one was called
"Handful of New Days" the
other was from 'Woman in
the Bible'. In part of the first
topic she said each New
Year passed so quicly, no
one knows what each hand-
ful holds, it is all in the
Lord's Hands. "Reference
was also made to man lan-
ding on the moon, the fast
trains and planes and pic-
tures through the air via
television. The . Lord is the
one steadfast anchor. The
old year has gone and we
should thank the Lord for
bringing us through it. Ill
will and hate is no way to
start the new year, we
should have faith, hope and
love. Wasted days can not be
called back. During this dis-
course bible verses were
read by Hilda Landsbergen,
Lylyan Greb Mary Jacobe
and Helen Consitt.
In Beatrice Rader's se-
cond topic re Women of the
Bible' she enlarg d on the
life of Mary stating that she
was a young Hebrew maiden
engaged to Joseph and that
she had been chosen to con-
ceive the Son of the Highest.
She could 'not see now this
could be, but she accepted
this knowing that with God
all things are possible.
Reference was made re

scenes of His life how he
