Clerk -treasurer and tax collector, Mel Graham's salary was increased to 312,- 600 plus 34,000 office and car allowances. Deputy clerk - treasurer, Betty Graham, is now making 38,000 a year. The road superintendent is now making $8,15 per hour, a grater operator will make 37.70 an hour and a truck driver will make 37.60 an hour. A casual laborer will make 36.25 an hour. All represent an increase of about 10 per cent: The township joined a number of associations, such .as the Ontario Good Roads Association for a fee. of 331. - They .also joined the AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) for $213.78, the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers for 460, the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) for 3125 and the Ontario Farm Drainage Association for 325. The grants for the year were also approved. The Canadian National Institute for the Blind received 3100. The War Memorial Children's . Hospital, the Salvation Army and the March of Dimes also receiv- ed 3100. The Huron Historical Society received $25. A resolution by Haldimand -Norfolk county was endorsedat the meeting. The resolution dealt with li- quid industrial waste that is proposed to be dumped near South Cayuga. The resolu- tion states that there should be an enviromental study available to be done if the residents request. There . is no such option now. In an earlier meeting, there was draft approval of a 15 lot subdivision on part of lot five on Lakeroad West. It was also agreed that the two new councillors would be sent to a seminar for new councillors. The seminar is to help new councillors ad- just and understand their jobs better. The seminar is being sponsored by the AMP on March 6 and 7. A resolution from North Burgess was endorsed. The resolution dealt with someone who owns property in the area, but resides in a 'different area and can run for council in North Burgess. The resolution states that the legislation should be changed so that any person can only run for council in the area where they reside. Rob Chester Mark Hough Students join staff Journalism students Mark Hough and Rob Chester join- ed the staff of the Zurich Citizens News and the Ex- eter Times -Advocate last week. Hough and Chester will replace Tom Creech as editors of the Citizens News. Creech has been named editor of the Mitchell Ad- vocate. Graduates of the three- year journalism program at Kitchener's Conestoga College, Chester is from Petersburg, near Kitchener, and Hough is from Allen - ford, near Owen Sound. Students serve a four- month internship with southern Ontario newspapers under the college's journalism program. They are paid an honorarium, and are guided by local editors. Hough has had experience with The Citizen, a weekly newspaper based in east -end Kitchener. Chester was editor of the student newspaper at Conestoga, and both have worked on This Week, a weekly publish- ed by the college's jour- nalism department.
