Without a full committee, the group is Unable to func- tion, and therefore is unable to provide any new recreational activities for residents or raise money to upgrade existing programs. With all the ball player's, socoer players, tennis players. hockey players, broomball players, coaches, sponsors and fans, surely two people would be in- terested in making this com- mittee work succegsfully. Called to two fires 'me Hayfield fire depart- ment responded" to two calls in the past week. Bayfield carried three loads of water to the fire o4 Satur- day night, but firefighters were unable to save the structure. Memories of Christmas from the- residents I, asked many residents what they remembered most about Christmas past during the last week and this is the response I received. I can remember when we lived in London and we had one of the old type water softener systems in the attic which had to be turned off by hand. We had forgotten once ,,and it had leaked through to the ceiling and cracks had appeared in the plaster. We. had hoped it would stay in place until after the Christ- mas holiday, but with 4 children that liked jumping on beds . and things it gave way and fell on thedining. room table shortly before'we. were to sit -down to Christ- mas dinner. I can remember six Christmas that weren't very happy when my dad went everseasto fight in the war . There was only my mother and I at home, I had no brothers or sisters. He left when I was 10 years old and didn't come back until I was' sixteen. I hate to admit that I'm getting forgetful, but I can't think of one Christmas that stands out in my mind. 1 can remember the story my mother always told about go- ing to the store shopping with a quarter and finding that after you purchased one present, there wasn't enough left for the other two. -I suppose the Christmas that stands out most in my mind is the year our daughter got married three days beforeandthere were so many people coming from alloverthat we had to -meet. One year dad got energetic and dressed upasSanta Claus on Christmas Eve and brought my little sister her toys. As he was leaving the room ' she looked up and said, "Thanks daddy". All my Christmases were memorable but I suppose the one I remember the most was when I got Angus (a lit- tle Scotty dog) . I had to give him back until he got trained but I had him for 14 years, all through my growing up years. The best Christmas we ha d were the years when Pair of goals cost victory The Zurich Buckeyes and Centralia Marauders played to a 5-5 tie Sunday in Zurich. In Sunday's tie with the Buckeyes, the Marauders were able to score two goals SPORTS • SPOT by Marlene and Torry BPdard in the last three minutes of play. The first period was even with each team scoring one goal. Matt Muller opened the scoring for Centralia at 7:19 on a three-way combination with Mark Cr inyn and Rick Funston and near the 15 minute mark Kim McKinnon replied for the Buckeyes on a pass from Gerald Weido. Five goals were produced in the second period with the Buckeyes getting three of them. At 5:34 of the middle frame, Mark Cronyn put the Marauders into a temporary lead as he converted a pass from Rick Funston and then the Buckeyes took control of the scoring. In one munute and 44 seconds the Zurich club fired three shots into the Centralia net. It started at 6:11 with Kris Bedard banging in a pass from Ron Rader and then Pat Bedard completed a three-way passing effort with Kim McKinnon and Greg Kirk. •4nIY .seven seconds later, the Buckeyes were in front 4- 2 as Kiln McKinnon fired a successful shot on a play set up by Pat Bedard. The Marauders bounced back with a goal at 11:03 as Rick Funston scored on a pass from Mark Cronyn. With only 23 seconds left in the period, the Buckeyes regained a two goal lead. Kim McKinnon completed a hat trick for the afternoon as he hit the mark on a three- way passing effort with Greg Kirk and Gerald Weido. The Zurich 5-3 lead held up until the 16:48 mark of the third period and a victory seemed well within their grasp. Randy Somerville notched the first Centralia goal on a play started by Mark Cronyn and with only a minute and nine seconds left, Blair Hearn tied the game on an unassisted effort. The Buckeyes took 10 of the 18 penalties called by referees Brian Campbell and Iry Ford. Sherwood's win The Hensall Sherwoods posted two victories this past week in South Huron Hockey League action. Our first Christmas in Canada was the most memorable. It was a new church we had gone to and we couldn't beleive the stained glass windows so high up. The family was all sitting in one pew and we nudged each other to look up at these windows, but then we quickly looked down again. At home they didn't have churches like that and that is what I remember the most. Round and about' Mr. and Mrs. Bud Sturgeon attended the Davidson family Christmas, in London on Sunday.
