Offers of im- mediate financial 'assistance came from organizations and businesses in Bayfield, Brucefield; Seaforth, Goshen and Varna. The Zurich Mennonite Church brought in a comforter. Proceeds from the Orange Lodge's first card party on January 9 will be donated to the fund. A benefit dance is being planned for early spT ing. On Wednesday evening, the Brucefield fire depart - fire family ment was called to the home of Stan and Betty Smith, the former Flora Dowson home when a malfunction inthe furnace caused an explosion and flames were coming out the door of the fire chamber. Stan had the presence of mind to shutoff the value on the oil line and it had almost burned itself out by the lime the firemen arrived. Stan and Betty were pleased with how quickly the firemen arrived. By Monday afternoon .a fund for the family had reached 11.000.
