Has-Beansile o'ne,
The Zurich Has -Beans,
this area's entry into the
world of oldtimer's hockey
played three games in the
Great Lakes tournament
held this past weekend in
London tying one game and
losing their other two.

the tourney- for the Has -
Beans was the Friday effort
when they lost to St. Thomas
2-1. St. Thomas went on to
take the D division.
Scoring the lone Has -
Beans goal early in the
second period was Don
O'Brien who took a pass
from Glen Thurman. Yvonne
Laurin had a strong game in
goal for Zurich.
In their first game
Saturday the Has -Beans
came up against a strong
Port Dover Team who
pounded Zurich 9-2.
The Has -Beans scored
their first goal of the game
with a little over a minute
remaining in the first period
as Jack Stephan found the
range. Gerald Shantz had
the assist.
The other Zurich goal
came off the stick of George
Suplat with assistance. from
Lloyd Moore.
Saturday evening in the
final game of the • series
Zurich and Schomberg tied
at five with Ron Watt scoring
two goals for the bean team.
Thurman, Shantz and
O'Brien counted the other
.`markers.
Midgets win two
The Zurich Midgets had a
good week as they posted
v caries over Clinton and
Erma -Logan.
In their 9-6 victory over
Clinton Monday, Paul
Johnston and Mike Smith
scored for Zurich in tYi'e first
period.
The locals picked up
another pair of goals in the
second period on efforts by
Johnston and Randy Parker.
The final frame saw the
Midgets score five goals
including a hat -trick by
David Smith. Brian Horner
and Dwayne Laporte scored
the other goals.
The Midgets tripped Elma-
Logan 5-2 on the strength of a
three goal outburst in the
final perios.
Parker had the only Zurich
goal of the first frame while
in the second period Smith
picked up a counter for the
home team.
The final period saw
Horner, Kevin Denomme
and Brian, Stewart find the
range.
A total of 18 penalities
were called including major
misconducts to Elma-
Logan's Jeff Matheson and
Zurich's Gord Love.
Bantams best Huron Park
In their only game of the
week the Zurich Bantams
trounced their Huron Park
counterparts 6-1 in Huron
Park.
Scoring goals for Zurich
were Dean Armstrong,
Derek McKinnon, Dennis
Schroeder, Bob Snell and
Brian Kading with two goals.
Only nine penalties were
called during the game.
Sherwoods split games
The Hensall Sherwoods
split a pair of games this
past week losing to Forest 7-5
Thursday in HensalI and
defeating the Centralia
Marauders 6-3 Wednesday
in. Huron Park.
At one time in their game
against Forest the Sher -
woods lead by a
3-1 score but a strong third
period by the visiters
provided to be the margin of
victory.
Jamie Caldwell and Steve
Knight headed the Sher -
wood's scoring with 'two
goals each.
Caldwell and Knight
scored the first two goals of
the game mid -way through
the first period with - Rick
Ingram picking up a pair of
assists.
Following a score by the
Boyds, Jaimie Caldwell
scored to restore Hensall's
two goal lead. Ingram added
another assist.
With slightly over two
minutes left in the period
Forest came back with their
second score of the evening.
Hensall managed their
final two goals of the game in
the second frame on efforts
by Knight and Ken Varley.
Dave Kinsman assisted on
both goals while Ingram
helped on the Knight goal.
From that point onward it
was all Forest as they
pumped five goals past
Hensall goalie Steve
Sararas. Having an out-
standing: evening . for the -
Boyds was Dave Ulrich who
scored five goals. ,
A night earlier, the story
was Much better.. as they
doubled up the Marauders:
Parley who up . until
recently was playing for the
'Exeter Hawks, hada good
evening as he scored a pair
of goals and assisted on three
other counters.
The Sherwoods struck first
with only 25 seconds gone in
the game as Dwight Corisitt
broke in; on Centralia goalie
Pete Parsons. Terry Cald-
well and Varley assisted.
The Marauders came back
with two goals on efforts by
Matt Muller and Mark
Cronyn. Ron Funston
assisted on both goals.
With 1:17 left in the period
the Sherwoods tied the game
on the strength of a goal by
Terry Caldwell.
The teams traded goals in
the second period with Rob
Funston scoring for Cen-
tralia and Varley countering
for the Sherwoods.
The game winning goal
was scored by Varley with
five minutes gone in the final
frame. Consitt and Terry
Caldwell assisted.

We appreciated the nice
weather on the weekend
since a number of tenants'
moved into the new Blue
Water Rest Home Apart-
ments built to the east of the
Home. Newcomers are Mr.
and Mrs. Ferdinand Hab-
berer, and Mrs. Iva Datars
of Zurich, Mrs Elizabeth
Gingerich from the
Maplewoods Apartments,
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Jones and
Mrs. Oriole Harvey of
Hensall, Mrs. Losetta
Fahrner from Blue Water
Rest Home and Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Foster formerly of St.
Marys. The balance of the
apartments will be occupied
within the next week. We
hope you will make
newcomers to this area
welcome.
Films were shown on
Monday evening followed by
refreshments.
Bingo was played on
Friday evening followed by
refreshments.
