Exeter Mohawks win B crown
Buckeyes tops in Henstl tourney
Teams from Zurich and
Exeter walked away with the
top honours in the second
annual Hensall Minor
Athletic Association in-
termediate "D" hockey
tournament held on the
weekend at the Hensall and
district community centre.
Taking the A division and a
cheque for $400 were the
Zurich Buckeyes with an 8-4
victory over Mitchell in the
tournament's final game
Sunday.
Thi injury riddled Exeter
Mohawks had a fine tour-
namentandwith their 8-4 win
over Brussels Sunday af-
ternoon took the B title.

pleased with the tournament
and made note that all
squads were very com-
petitive. Other teams par-
ticipating were from
Avonton, Goderich, . Forest
and Hensall.
In the A final Zurich
received strong per-
formances from, Kim
McKinnon and Richard
Schilbe who scored three and
two goals, restrctively.
7urieh overcame a 2-1
deficit at the end of the first
period with Schilbe scoring
the only Zurich goal. John
Graham had the assist.
The second period saw
Zurich score two of their
three goals on the power-
play. -
At 12:16 speedy forward
Steve Bedour took passes
from Gerald Weido and
goalie Jurgen Hellmann and
fired a hard shot past former
Seaforth Centennaires goalie
Lou Arts.
The Buckeyes then waite
until the final two minutes t
score their third and fourth
goals of the game with
Schilbe scoring unassisted
on the powerplay and Kim
McKinnon picking up a
counter. with only seven
seconds left in the period.
Pat Bedard added the assist.
A goal by Mitchell with
less than four minutes
elapsed in the third period
put the creamery town team
back into contention but the
Buckeyes secured the vic-
tory with three more goals.
At 13:06 Kim McKinnon
scored his second goal of the
day with assistance from Pat
Bedard and Marvin Merner.
With a Mitchell player off
for tripping, Pat, Bedard
scored three minutes later
with an assist from Weido.

regained the lead but Exeter

Luke Gagnon and Taylor had
the assists.
Veteran defenceman Jack
Chipchase put the Mohawks
in the lead as be scored at the
19:54 mark. Bergman added
the assist.
Exeter took eommand of
the game in the -final period
on goals by Bergman,. Brion
Penhale, Jackson and
Taylor. Jim Guenther had
two assists with singles
going to Taylor, Ron Moore,
Anstett and Gagnon,, , .
In their sem%nal the
Mohawks edged Goderich 7-
6. Exeter goals were scored
by Bergman with a pair,
Taylor, Datars, 'Dan Webb,
Gagnon and Tom Ryan.
The Mohawks . lost their
opining game to Hensall 7-3.
Taylor had the hat -trick for
Exeter,

pired, Forest crushed
Avonton 8-4 and Mitchell
bested Brussels 9-3.
ZURICH TAKES A CHAMPIONSHIP — The Zurich Buckeyes. of the South Huron Hockey
league captured the A championship df the second annual Hensall Minor Athletic.Aisocia-
tion intermediate hockey tournament held on the weekend with o victory over Mitchell in the
final game Sunday. Presenting the championship trophy and a cheque for $400 to
Buckeyes' captain John Graham was association president Les Gardner.

The Buckeyes made their
way into the championship
as a result of a 7-2 win
over the Hensall Sherwoods
in the semi-final Saturday
and a 9-2 walloping of the
Goderich Flyers Friday.
In the Hensall-Zurich
game Schilbe and Randy
McKinnon had two goals
each for the Buckeyes with
single counters credited .to
Kerry Bedard, Kim
McKinnon and Weido. Terry
Caldwell and Dwight Consitt
had the Hensall goals.
Schilbe and Randy
McKinnon and Graham had
a pair of goals each in the
Goderich game with the
other goals coming from
Weido, Ron Desjardine, Pat
Bedard and Kim McKinnon.
Steeper stars for Exeter
Tom Steeper had a fine
game in goal to aid the
Mohawks in their victory
over Brussels Sunday.
Steeper was picked up for
the tournament from the
Parkhill Merchants due to an
injury to regular Mohawk
goalie John Hayter. Also
playing for the Exeter squad
in the tourney were former
Mohawk and Exeter Hawk
Brian Taylor plus Don
Heywood and Jim Rolph
from the Exeter rec loop.
The game was a back -and -
forth affair with the teams
tied at four -all going into the
third period.
Dave Jackson scored the
first of his two goals with
four minutes one in the first
frame. Mike Anstett had the
assist.
Brussels then scored two
goals but the Mohawks came
Area drivers had a taste of
winter driving conditions
during the past week and at
least four of the seven ac=
cidents investigated by the
Exeter OPP were partially
due to poor road condition:
There were three ac-
cidents on Friday, the first
when a vehicle driven by
Donna Glanville, Exeter,
went into a skid on the
Crediton Road about 4.5 km.
west of Highway 4 and
struck a hydro pole.
The 'driver sustained
minor injuries and damage
was set at $1,600 by
Constable Ed Wilcox.
Vehicles driven by
Michael VanRaay, R.R. 3,
Dashwood, and Jeffrey Den-
nis, R.R. 2, Zurich, collided
on 'Highway 83 west of Ex-
eter with damage in that one
being listed at $1,200 -by
Constable Don Mason.
The other Friday collision
occurred when a vehicle
driven by Lloyd Brintnell,
R.R. 6, St. Marys, struck a
Bell Telephone junction box
on concession 12-13 of
Usborne Township, 6.4 km.
south of Highway 83.- The
vehicle rolled over and
damage was estimated at
$1,200 by Constable Wilcox.
The first of two collisions
on Saturday was on the
Crediton,Road east of Coun-
ty Road 21 and involved
vehicles driven by John
DeBoek, Exeter, and Daniel
Wilken, Kincardine.
Damage in that was listed at
$700 by Constable Frank Gif-
fin.
Damage of $1,000 resulted
in the other Saturday crash.

and struck a pole.- ,
Constable Don Millson in-
vestigated and listed' total
damage at $1,000.
Icy roads were partially
blamed for the two Sunday
collisions.
In the first, a vehicle
driven by Kevin Geoffrey,
Zurich, skidded on ice on
Highway 84 and went into
_the ditch. Damage to the
vehicle was listed at $600 by
Constable Giffin.
In the other Sunday colli-
sion, a vehicle driven by
Todd Case; Alvinston, struck
an icy patch and hit a bridge
on Stephen sideroad 20 west
of. 3-4. Damage
was estimated at -$700 by
Constable Million.
Mark Ormandy,
Dashwood, a ' passenger in
the vehicle, sustained minor
injuries.

Sausage Upside Down Cake
Brown 1 Ib. sausage on all sides. Saute' 1 onion sliced,
till tender. Placeihe sausage in 8" pan. Arrange onion
on top of meat and pour 110 oz. tomato soup can mixed
with 1 teaspoon sugar and '/z c. water.Turn oven to 375
deg. Place the sausage mixture in oven while making
the topping.

2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder, 2/3 tsp. salt 1 tsp. dry mustard,
Cut In
'/a e. shortening. Mix with enough milk to make a soft
dough. Sprea 1 the topping over sausages and bake
about 15-20 min. Turn upside down on a platter.

1 c. butter
1/2 e. brown sugar
Mix well. roll, cut in squares. Bake till light brown in
250 oven. Recipe can be doubled.
