Dr. Knight spoke first to the children, telling them how to say "Hello" in African and showing them a native dog btiell, a barkcloth blanket, embroidered hangings, a ' paddle for mixing food and a school scribbler made from labels off cans,. More facts about life in Zaire, especially among Angolan refugees, were recounted by Dr. Knight during the sermon time. He took as his text "For the Love of God controls con- straineth Us" Mrs. Donna St. John sang a lovely solo "I Will Sing New Songs of Gladness" by Dvorak. Dr. Ralph Topp accompanied her on the piano and was at the organ for the remainder of the Hensall Bertha McGregor service. A new missionary hymn "Macedonia" was sung by the congregation at the close of the service. Next Sunday the service will be held at the usual time of 11 a.m. with Rev. Stanley McDonald conducting. Junior choir will meet this week on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. All children age seven years and up are invited. Young Teens will be meeting on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Hensall United Church was filled Sunday evening for their November fellowship service when they held a "Night with the Knights". •Dr. Allen Knight and his wife 'Eleanor spent nearly thirty-five years working among, with, and for African villagers through the United Church of Canada. Spending the day in Hensall, Dr. Knight spoke at the morning service and spoke through his coloured slides, at the evening service, of how God had used he and Mrs. Knight, to bring the message of the gospel to the people of Angola and Zaire. The fellowship service opened with a hymn sing led by Rev. McDonald with Eric Luther at the piano and Ross Hargreaves, minister of Thames Road United Church led in a devotional. Following the service a time of fellowship was held in the fellowhsip hall. In charee of Entertain at Queensway The men's high score at the bowling of Queensway Nursing Home this week was Albert Miazga with 141 and ladies' was Mrs. Mary Parlmer with 118. Eugene Fox conducted the church service accompanied by his wife Mrs. Fox. Miss Mary Lou Erb accompanied at the piano. The Bethel Reformed Ladies entertained the residents with treats and bingo. Mrs. Erline Stewart and Mrs. Shirley Prouty visited many residents. Mrs. Jones and Allan Johnston visited with Herb Jones; Wanda Struyk and Frank Rozendal visited Mrs. AliceRozendal; Mr. & Mrs. Clement Boland visited Neil Regan; Leslie Mitchell visited his mother Mrs. Louise Mitchell. Beatrice Taylor visited her mother Mrs. Volland; Iva Ridley visited Vera Lam- mie; Louise Scrimgeour was visited by Mr. & Mrs. Bates; Florence and Walter Wilhelm visited Edna Youn. the communications and missions committee. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mock were the greeters and Cecil Pepper and Ross Veal were the ushers for the service. Throe Links Seniors The Hensall Three Links Senior Citizens met on Tuesday evening with the President Mrs. Ruby Bell presiding. Mrs. Alf Ross presided at the piano for the singing of "0 Canada" followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. The roll call and minutes were followed by the treasurer's report by Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell. It was announced a workshop will be held in Clinton on November 26 for the Executive. The secretary Mrs. Irene Davis gave an interesting report on the Rally held at Dashwood. "Thank you's" were received from Mrs. Elizabeth Riley and Edith Bell. The Christmas party to be held on December 9 was discussed. Mrs. Clarence 'Volland conducted a "sing -song" with Mrs. Ross at the piano. Mrs. Edith Bell gave a reading "Remembrance Day". Progressive euchre was played with nine tables in play. Mrs. Percy Camp- bell won Ladies' High Prize; Mrs. Edith Bell won ladies' consolation. Bert Horton was the high men's winner and Stewart Blackwell won men's consolation. Mrs. S. Blackwell won for the lone hands. Will decorate Church Mrs. Belva Fuss presided for the November meeting of Unit 1 of Hensall United Church and gave a poem "Time" after which the hymn "Faith of our Fathers" was sung in keeping with "Remem- brance Day". Belva read the scripture 2nd Corinthians 5, 16-20 and gave the highlights of the great work ac- complished by Dr. and Mrs. Allan Knight, who have returned from Africa. Belva led in prayer and "Onward Christian Soldiers" was sung. A thank you note was Population up or down? Depending on whether you're an enumerator or member of council, Hensall's population has either in- creased or declined. A census report for the village indicates the latter with a total of 965 residents in the community compared to 989 a year ago. Clerk -treasurer Betty Oke told council Wednesday that according to the census report, Hensall has been experiencing a population decline since 1978 when 1,005 residents were recorded. Oke expressed doubt about the 1980 figures, saying several names were missed from the voter's list. Data for the census report and voters' list was collected in September. Councillor Harry Klungel had doubts about the ac- curacy of the report, saying that several young families had moved into the village recently. received from Queensway Nursing Home. Unit 1 is to decorate the Church for Christmas, this is to be done Thursday November 27 at 1 p.m. The Unit also has devotional for the General Meeting December 1. Members were reminded to bring homemade candy, cookies for the Christmas boxes to 'be packed. A discussion on the project sending seeds to Africa to which all agreed. Institute hear Mr. Ralph Smith •Mr. Ralph Smith, a _ lawyer from Seaforth, gave an interesting talk on "Making a will" at the November meeting of the Hensall Women's Institute. He spoke on what you should know about -wills; what a will is, when it should be made. Judging by the questions asked afterwards the members found this an engrossing subject. Mrs. Smith was introduced by Mrs. Isobel Rogerson and thanked and presented with a cheque by her afterwards. This was Family and Con- sumer Affairs evening. Twelve members an- swered the roll call by naming a product they would never -buy again. The an- swers were quite varied.. A special collection was taken for the Family and Children's Service Christ- mas Fund. Mrs. Hilda Payne con- ducted the meeting, opening with a poem "Only Loaned". She thanked all the members for helping so efficiently with the dessert euchre in October. A donation of $20 was voted for the CNIB canvass and all who helped with the canvass were thanked. Members were reminded of achievement day for our 4H clubs on November 27 at Seaforth and it was decided to vote in favour of holding a workshop in the District annually. Reports of the district board meeting and the London Area convention were given by Mrs. Joyce Pepper. The new version of "0 Canada" was sung at the beginning of the meeting and it was agreed to hold a birth- day party at the Blue Water Rest home next July. Personals Mrs. Robert Chaffe and Sally of Mitchell visited with the former's parents last Mr. & Mrs. Jack Corbett on Thursday. Mrs. Sim Roobol who was receiving treatment in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, returned to her home last week. Dr. and Mrs. Allen Knight of Grimsby spent the weekend at the Manse with Rev. McDonald and were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edison Forrest Citizen: News, November 20, 1980 Page 3 CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY — Richard (Dick) and Pearl Taylor of Hensall celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary , when their family honoured them with a social gathering at the Hensall Community centre on Friday evening. The wedding table was adorned with yellow roses and centred with an anniversarywedding cake. The even- ing was much enjoyed by a Targe number of relatives and friends and school -mates who came from manydistances to celebrate with them on this happy occasion. Dancing was en- joyed to music by the Blue Water Playboys. A delicious luncheon was served. Dick and Pearl were married on November 15th, 1930 at the Hensall United church manse by the late Rev. Arthur Sinclair. They have a family of three: Mrs. John Brintnell, RR 2 Staffa; John Taylor, Exeter; and Alvin Taylor, Hensall. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
