Named the new reeve int Hensall was veteran councillor Paul Neilands who defeated fellow coun- cillor Harry Klungel, by 64 votes. Neilands.had 252 votes compared to 208 for Klungel. In the race for the four. council seats, incumbent Dick Fackham,. former reeve Minnie Noakes and newcomers Cecil Pepper and John Skea took the top spots. Finishing 'behind the four. winners were incumbent Klaus Van Wieren,Sadie Hoy and Gary Huston. For the Hensall PUC retiring.reeve Harold Knight topped the polls followed by incumbent Charles Hay. Gary Maxwell finished well behind the two winners. Other area elections In a close fight, former Exeter mayor Bruce Shaw, defeated councillor 'Don Cameron by 157 votes to take, the -top in Exeter, 'Alvin Epp handily defeated . Ben Hoogenboom in the deputy - reeve's race while the council for the next two years will be made up of incumbents Ldssy Fuller and Jay Campbell and newcomers Bill Mickle, Tom Humphreys, Barb Bell and Morley Hall. In- Stephen township, ` in- cumbents Ralph Weber and Tom Tomes were returned while the third spot was filled by political newcomer Ken McCann. Nancy Rader is the newest trustee in the police village of Dashwood. She defeated Robert. Bobgemans 132 to 83 to fill the final position. George Tieman and Kenneth Rader were the only two nominations at the first nomination and. were acclaimed. In Monday's election Mrs. Rader edged Boogemans 57- 56 in the Stephen township poll, but, pulled ahead to win when Hay township ,results mere received. At Grand Bend, Reeve Bob Sharen fought off a challenge by Dick Manore and regained his seat as the top elected official in the resort. Sharen received 300 votes compared to Manore's 199 votes. Verteran councillor Harold Green defeated two other candidates for the deputy -reeve's job while the new council will consist of Mae Morenz, Dennis Snider and returnee Keith Crawford. Elected to the PUC were Prosper Van- Bruane and Roy Johnston. Tuckersmith council will have some old faces in new positions with , Bill Brown Senior defeating fellow councillor Bob Fotheringham 639 to 505 in the election for deputy - reeve. In the six -way race for council Jim Papple collected 695 votes to take the top spot with Robert Broadfoot collecting 639 votes for second spot. Acclaimed as reeve was current councillor Robert Bell who replaces Ervin Sillery. Sillery did not seek re-election. Just slightly over 50 percent of voters in Tudtersmith cast ballots, up some eight percent com- pafed to the 1978 election. In a close race for the third and final spot on council, John Brownridge polled 451 votes to Lloyd Eissler Sr.'s 440. Jan Ferguson took 309 votes while Betty Mae MacLean gained the support of 213 people. IT TASTES SO GOOD — Among the South Huron Panthers who champion Goderich Vikings is Guy Dietz of RR 2, beverage. Family planning meeting The C.W.L. ladies of St. Boniface will be having a special meeting open to the community on Tuesday November 18 at 8 o'clock St. Boniface school when all are invited to hear Mrs. Sheila Howard ftom London speak on "Natural Family Planning". Husbands,and wives, and engaged couples are most welcome! Ladies auxi liary The November meeting of the ladies Auxiliary was held at the Rest -Home last Tuesday with 28 members answering the roll call. The main topic on the agenda were plans for the bazaar, bake sale and tea that will take place this Saturday at the home from 2-4 p.m. Volunteers were asked to help at the residence. Christmas party on December 5. The . president and executive will be presenting a cheque for $1000 as their final payment on the Whirlpool to Mr. Risi soon. A going away present was bought for Irene Brisson, a past president who was moving away. Aprons were donated for the bazaar. Personals Congratulations to Clarence and Gladys Schade who celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a family dinner, Our sympathy is extended to the family of the late Mary McKinnon (Mother of -Ray) who passed away suddenly at her home last Wed- nesday. She will 'be greatly missed by so manyfriends of hers. . •- Harold Smith spent a few days this past week visiting friends and relatives in Charlottetown P.E.I. Mr. & Mrs. Curtis Gingerich and Mr. & . Mrs. Earl Oesch attended the 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday at Craigwiel garden - Activity Centre in Ailsa Craig. Several relatives of Marie Gelinas s helped her to celebrate her 103 birthday on Sunday with dinner and a family get together af- terwards at the home of her nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Mozart Gelinas Sr. Our sympathy is also extended to the family and relatives of the late Maxime Overholt who passed away on Sunday in South Huron Hospital. Henry and Annie Becker went to Kitchener on Friday and paid their last respects to the latter's brother, Nelson Brandt who passed away on Thursday. Our prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Mrs. Marlene Bedard of Goderich (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Masse, Zurich) who is a patient in Victoria Hospital London and underwent a serious operation last Friday. Farewell to Mrs. Irene Brisson who moved on Saturday to her now home in Michigan. Prior to this a few friends got- together • last Wednesday afternoon at my place for a little going away parry for her? Little Alicia Maire Schroeder daughter of Ken and Denise Schroeder, Hensall was baptized at St. Boniface Church on Sunday be Father Mooney. God- parents were Terry Bedard and Sandra Hoy. A family get together was held af- terwards. A good time was had by all who attended the men's rec fastball league dinner along with their wives , Friday. Trophies and awards were handed out to the winding teams Rnd most valuable players. Mrs. Juliette Denomme returned home on the weekend after spending ,two weeks visiting with her son, Kazan and Annette Denomme in Detroit. Congratulations to Howard and Elaine Datars of RR 1 Dashwood whose family held a surprise 25th wedding anniversary dinner for them on Sunday. After returning home more sur- prises were had when long distance phone calls of congratulations were received from her sister Iris and family in Peterborough, brother, Bob Becker and family from out west and an aunt and uncle in,Manitoba. The Women's Institute held their meeting this past Wednesday that was can- celled from the 5th. Many turned out to see the display from the Christmas Place in Grand Bend. HAY'S COUNCIL — Two incumbents and a newcomer to political office will make 4 the Hay township council for the next two years.
