White bean payments are of major importance
Farmers have been asking
when they might expect the
balance of payment for the
1977 white bean production.
Examinations for Discovery
are still being conducted and
unless a settlement can be
negotiated with the dealers,
the final decision will rest
with the Courts.
The Ontario Bean
Producers Marketing Board
will be making a statement
on this matter, prior. to the
Regional Annual Meeting
and more information can be
obtained at this time. •
The meeting for Huron
County Bean Producers will
be held in the Hensall Arena,
on Friday, November 28, and
the meeting for the Mid-
dlesex Bean Producers, will
be held at the Ilderton
Masonic Hall, On Tuesday,
,December 2.
Last March I asked the
Minister of Agriculture and
Food, if he would be
prepared to amend
legislation which vtould give
the Egg Producers
Marketing Board, authority
to use the levy money to pay
the egg producers_ who
suffered loss from the
bankruptcy of Whyte Plant
in Burlington.
I am pleased to announce
that amendments have been
made to the Farm Products
Payment Act and such
amendments should come
into the Legislature for
debate within the very near
future.
When the amendments are
passed the Egg Producers
Marketing Board will be able
to pay the producers who
shipped eggs to the Whyte
Plant for which they did not
receive payment. Hopefully,
these egg producers will
receive payment prior to the
New Year.
An Agricultural
Management Resource
Centre, has been established
by the Minister of
Agriculture and Food. This
Centre will act as a focal
point for directing and co-
ordinating information and
activities, regarding
development of new thrust in
alternate energy sources for
agriculture.
One of the programs that
will be developed by the
Centre is the Ethanol
(alcohol) Production Grant
Program. This is a new
incentive grant program to
assist farmers who wish to
install ethanol stills on their
farm-_ for evaluation
derhonstration and trial use
of alcohol as a fuel.
We get Letters
Dear Mr. Editor:
I would like to express a
belated thank you to the men
and wome. whb gave of
themselves to the children in
the Minor Athletic Baseball
programme. '
This time spent did not go
unnoticed by both children
and parents.
We in the Zurich area
are lucky to have organized
baseball to teach kids from
an early age the basics of
baseball and sportsmanship.
The children playing ball
can take an extra step fur-
ther on the . road preparing
them for life.
A special thanks to Sandra
and Ron Dickert the coaches
of the Champion Expos.
Their patience and
guidan' o through all the
t,,,ssed pop flys and
grounders paid off in the end.
The banquet the
Association gave the kids
last Thursday was a
highlight and a fitting end to
a good season.

The purposeof the
program is .to establish and
evaluate the use of ethanol
under practical conditions
for Ontario agriculture.
Information is needed on
such things as technology,
use of feedstocks and end
products, and energy costs.
Some details of the
program are as follows:
Forty percent of total cost
of installation up to a
maximum grant of $15,000
per farm or forty percent of
the total cost to a maximum
of $20,000 for a community
installation (installation
includes cost of labour,
construction, equipment and
monitoring devices).
The grant is available
from August 1st, 1980, to
March 31st, 1981. No special
application form is required
but a summary of facts
supporting the feasibility of
the project will be required.
Grants will be available
when projects are completed
for operation. Further in-
formation regarding this

The Ontario Government
will spend $165 million over
the next five years to help
make Canada self-sufficient
in energy by 1990. It will.
spend $50 million to develop
solar energy and another $75
million to develop alter-
