Put out car firs
Grain truck spills load
A Huron Grain transport
careened around the in-
famous Highway 21 curve at
Clan Gregor Square and spill-
ed its load of corn on Monday
morning. Phe northbound
tractor trailer crossed the
highway into the •west
lane and spewed countless
tons of corn onto the road
surface. No injuries were
reported, however a
southbound stationwagon
which happened onto the turn
at the same time, narrowly
missed being squashed asthe
trailer upset. The
stationwagon driver escaped
with a good scare and a
broken tail -light on his car.
Traffic was backed up for a
considerable time after the
9:30 a.m. accident, and even-
tually had to be- rerouted
around the square. Cleanup
operations were performed
by the M.T.C. and Gary
Triebnor of Bayfield. The
O.P.P. investigated the mis-
hap.

Hallowe'en masquerade party
Friday October 31, all the
young ghosts and goblins in
the village were summoned
to -the town hall for the an-
nual Hallowe'en Masquerade
Party, `sponsored by the
Bayfield Lions Club._
A good sized crowd of
youngsters displaying a wide
array of costumes turned out
for the judging and to receive
the usual treats.
The judges, Ernie Hovey,
Joe Mayman and Herb Beat-
ty determined the winners as

Figure skating will begin
this Saturday afternoon at
the 'Bayfield Arena.
Professional figure -skater,
Pauline Bell, will be on hand
on to start the lessons'If anyone
did not register last weekend
for this activity, they can
k still register at the arena on
Saturday.
` There -was no response for
the Minor Hockey Registra-
tion last weekend. If there
are any young people in-
terested in playing hockey in
Bayfield this year, another
registration day has been set
for this Saturday morning,
from 11 a.m. to l p.m., at- the
Bayfield Arena. All ages are
welcome.
Tim and Nora West attend-'
ed a bottle and `nostalgia'
show in Woodstock on Sun-
day.

Seneshen, London, spent the
weekend at Sunset . Lane,
north of the village.
Fred Scotchmer is current-
ly a patient in University
Hospital, London.
Quite a -number of residents
from Bayfield and surroun-
ding area, attended the 'tap-
ing of `Polka Time', the
Walter Ostenak Show, in
Kitchener on Sunday.
Mrs. Doris McLeod,
Kingsville, was the guest of
her brother-in-law Donald R.
Round and about

on his return, called on long
time friends, Oscar and Ber-

The'Erickson Family were
the guests on Sunday at an
appreciation_ day in New
Baltimore, Michigan, for
Jimmy Williams when he
was honoured by Radio Sta-
tion WSMA, Marine City. Mr.
Willia -tris was honoured for
his 20 years with the station
and his contribution tp coun
try music and his charitable
work in the area. As well,
the Ericksons celebrated
their. daughter Luanne's .12th
birthday.

The Per Young Club met
last Thursday evening with a
'good attendance at the Town
Hall. 'President ten. Carter

Treasurer Dorothy Cox
gave a very complete report
of the finances. Plans were
discussed for the clubs'
Christmas dinner, to be held
later next month. Plans
were also discussed to
`entertain' another • club in
November.
Esther Makins reported on
the bus trip to the Tommy
Hunter Show in Toronto,
scheduled • for December,
and the 'SimcoeSite' trip.
Birthday greetings were
sung to several and con-
gratulations were in order
for Len Carter and his wife;
Viola, on being a new grand-
father and grandmother this
summer. Collection was
received and the business
section of the meeting was
closed.
Euchre followed and the

All enjoyed a social hour
with a tasty lunch following.

Saturday with friends and
relatives on the weekend in
Bayfield.
A recent rash of break-ins
in the village has again been
plaguing cottage owners.
