ontiocs take tourney B title
The Seaforth
Mainstreeters and the
Zurich Pontiacs walked off
with most of the silverware
in the annual Zurich men's
rec fastball league tourna-
ment which finished up this
past Saturday.
The Mainstreeters
defeated the Carpetbaggers
of Exeter 10-2 to take the A
title while the Pontiacs
defeated the Seaforth
Villagers 11-5 to capture the
B division.
Named the most valuable
pitcher and the most
valuable player in the A divi-
sion were Jack Price and
Gus ,Feeney, both of the
champion Mainstreeters.
For their efforts the
Mainstreeters took home a
cheque for $200 in addition to
their trophy. The Carpet-
baggers won $100 for their
efforts.
The B winning Pontiacs
will cash a cheque for $100
while the Villagers received
$60.
In the B division Fred Bur-
ton of the Seaforth Villagers
was named the most
valuable player while Barry
Overholt of the Pontiacs was
honoured as the top hurler.
In other games played
Saturday in the rain delayed
tournament the
Mainstreeters defeated the
Zurich D.J.'s 4-2, the Carpet-
baggers -edged the Zurich
Oilburners 4-3, Lobbs of
Clinton defeated the Exeter
Crescent Rolls, the Pontiacs
clobbered the Seaforth B.P's
10-2, the Villagers clobbered
the Bluebirds of Clinton 10-3
and the Pontiacs blasted
Llobbs 10-1. '
Defeat Stratford
In ladies intertown bowl-
ing this week Zurich
defeated Mikes of Stratford
5-2.. Having the high triple
for Zurich was Sandra
Dickert with a score of 635:
Kids will bowl
- All children in bowling in
the junior league on Satur-
day mornings are asked to
contact the bowling lanes.
Bowling begins October 4.
There is still room for
more bowlers on Thursday
and Friday nights.
Cubs up on Expos
Contrary to the report in
last week's paper the cubs
are supplying the opposition
for the Expos with the bear
team taking a 1-0 lead in the
best of three series as They
scored a 23-10 victory.
Leading the way for the
Cubs were Mark Johnston
with five singles and Paul
Smith who had a home run, a
triple, a double and two
singles.
D.J.'s best Sunsets

The Sunsets jumped out to
a 3-0 lead in the first inning
but eight runs in the second
inning secured the victory
for the D.J.ers.
Big hitters for the victors
were Mike Desjardine with a
double and two singles, and
Mike Clarke, Ron Clarke,
Ray Weido, Paul Morrison,
Dave Clarke and. Pat Taylor
with singles.
Replying for the yellow
and red squad were Dave
Stark with a pair of doubles,
Don Beauchamp with two
singles and Grant Lee, Andy
Durand, Paul Smith and
Mark Regier with a hit each.
Other teams involved in
the rec league playoffs are
asked to notify Tony Bedard
of the scores of the games
and a few details about the
contests.
South Huron Slo-Pitch
League in finals
The deciding fifth and
final games. in- the South
Huron SIo-Pitch League will
be played this week in both
the A and B divisions.
Tonight in the "B" divi-
sion the Bluewater Lakers
and Bayfield Knighthawks
will take to the ,field at 8
p.m. in Varna to decide who.
is champion.
The Bayfield
Knighthawks, this years
league champions won their
way to the final after losing
to the Dashwood Gamblers
in the first round of playoffs_
and then by defeating their
cros -town rivals the
Bayfild Flyers in the full
five games 3-2.
The Bluewater Lakers lost
their first round as well as
two games to one against the
Zurich Cobras. They then
defeated the Bayview Blue
Bombers three games to
two.
Eagles & Cobras
tied at 2
games each
In the "A" championship
round the series is tied as
Well at two games each. The
deciding game will be played
Sunday evening at 8 p.m. in
Zurich.

for this series.
The Eagles ending in third
place in the final standings
defeated the Bayfield Flyers
two straight games and then
went on to defeat the
Dashwood • Gamblers three
games to one.
The Cobras squeezed past
the Bluewater Lakers ' in
their first round two games
to one. They then defeated
the Varna Stanley Steamers
three games to one.
The Banquet and Awardg
night this year will take
place in Dashwood on Fri-
day, October 3,
