A new aspect was an- nounced for . the Bayfield Hayf leld by Bud Sturgeon group, "the Pathfinders", for girls aged 12 to 15. The Pathfinders who registered on Saturday morning, spent the afternoon painting at Camp Keewaydin. Even though camping is not really a major aspect of the Pathfinders, it is for the Girl Guides. Thursday (tonight), the girls will have Jan Gozzard asa guest speaker. She will also be teaching sailing to the group. ' The turnout at Saturday's registration was loow, for most groups, but thy` Is still time to register. If in- terested, parents are asked to bring their child (and fee) to the first meeting tonight (Thursday). All groups, except the Beavers, will meet from 6:30 pm. to 8:00 p.m. The Beavers will be startingSaturday morning at 10:00 a.m. In Bayfield; it has been the custom for the parents of these young people, to belong to the L.A. Parents Group. They hope to be able to complete the executive list and have things in motion soon. These particular meetings are held every other month, and the "leaders" ap- preciate all the help and interest shown by the in- volved parents. K -hawks even series After dropping behind two games to one in their best -of - five aeries, the Bayfield �thawks were facing elimination at the hands of the Bluewater Lakers on Thursday night. The K - hawks came up equal to the task and easily downed the Lakers by a 13-6 score. With many area fans urging them on, the K -hawks played up to their potential, laying down a barrage of hits, and making use " of many.Laker fielding errors. With the series tied, the rubber match was set for Monday evening at the Varna diamond. Ladies Sio-pitch Action was quiet --on the ladies diamonds this week, the championship being decided a week ago at Varna. However, two special events will wind up "post - season" play for the Bayfield Babes. The Bluewater Ladies slo-pitch league All- Star team, selected from members of the Stanley Stars,,Varna Agricos, Bayfield. Goodtimes and Blue Shadows, were meeting the A champion Babes at the Varna diamond on Tuesday evening. The final scheduled outing for the Babes, will put them against the `B' champion Bluewater Centre • team from the Goderich League, Sunday, at 2 p.m. in Bayfield. Golf news At the Clinton Legion Golf Tournament, held Sunday,. September 21, at the Bayview Gold Course, south of Bayfield, the winner was Tim West . of Bayfield with ascore of 76 over the 18 holes. Finishing second, was Gerald Hiltz of Clinton, scoring a 77. Society to meet A meeting of the Huron County.., Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society was • Golden Glimpses The weatherman still seemsto'besmiling on us, and we are hoping for a lot of beautiful autumn weather. The new addition is now closed in with windows, doors and completed roof so now the workmen will be ablelo concentrate on the in- side work: The ladies of Grand Bend United church sponsored the September birthday party. The programme consisted of old time music played on the piano and violin and Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton showed slides of trips taken. Following the programme, birthday gifts, courtesy of the Ladies Aux- iliary were presented to the following residents with birthdays in September. Mrs" Olive Andrew, Mrs. Mary Elliott, Mrs. Melissa Gardner, Mr. Fred Gibson, Mr. William Witmer, Miss Minnie Hern, Miss May Jones, Mrs. Nancy Koehler and Mrs. Margaret Pfaff. A delicious lunch - was served by the Grand Bend Ladies. We wish to thank Mr. Wm. Heath of R.R. 2, Zurich for donations of tomatoes for use in the kitchen, also anyone else for any donations they have been making. The residents enjoy the vegetables and fruit fresh from the garden. The sympathy of residents and staff is extended to the family of the late Mr. Fred Miller. Bingo was played on Fri- day evening followed by refreshments. A special thanks goes to Mr. Todd of Maplewoods Apartments for arranging the band concert on Sunday afternoon by the Sbriner's Band, also to the members of the band for relinguishing their time to entertain here at the Home. The Sunday evening chapel . service was con- ducted by Ms. Barbara ,La- ing, United Church Minister of Dashwood and Zurich. Miss Idella Gabel presided at the organ during the ser- vice. held Wednesday at the Ronald Feagan Memorial Grandstand board room. Fh Chairman, Carole Robinson, welcomed all and expressed a special welcome . to our guests that were present. • The Chairman announced that we still needed a nominations -chairman and a fund raising chairman _ and anyone interested should get in touch with the chairman. An Ontario Genealogical Society lapel pin has been purchased by the chairman. and will be on display at the next meeting for anyone in- terested in purchasing one. The bulletin chairman reported that the fall bulletin is coming along well and she was given permis- sion to purchase the re - 1 1 Ft quired material for process- ing. The members were in- formed that we are set to go for our upcoming .workshop which will be held on Satur- day, September 27, 1980 commencing at 9:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Goderich. The workshop in "Beginning in Genealogy" with Dr. W. H. Minshall of London, Ontario who has ; 30 plus years ex- perience in genealogy and waapresident of the Ontario branch from 1971-1973. Chapman, dis- cussed the upcoming- Longpoint genealogical fair, T H E Y' October 18th. of which several members expressed an interest in attending. Interested parties wishing to attend should get in touch' with Mrs. Chapman as soon as possible. Round and about the village Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sturgeon, Jeff and Roland, Orangeville, spent the weekend in Bayfield at their Louisa Street abode.. Sunday morning, Bence, Jeff, Roland, and Mr. Gil Latimer, made their yearly pilgrimmage to the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, to watch the Detroit Lions squeak out a hard fought, victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, in NFL football play. Mr. and Mrs. Brian E 11111t H ER Brandon, and family, Owen Sound, were in the village over the weekend. Mary Pounder, Guelph, spent the weekend at home with hert parents,. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pounder, of Keith Crescent. Greg and Emmily Nielsen, weathered the weekend at their Sunset Lane cottage, just north of the village. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pounder, Stratford, spent the weekend at their Dow Street Cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cluff and family, London, visited the village over the weekend. Wendy Tyndall; who broke her ankle in a ball game early in September should be out of her cast and totally mobile in another two weeks.
