Over the weekend of Bayfield by Bud Sturgeon August. 16 and 17, the _Bayfield park hosted the Rondeau and Peterborough Wildwood Park contingents for friendly competition in a series of special activities. The 40 competitors from Rondeau, and the 49 from Peterborough were billeted with other campers at the Bayfield park. Saturday they had a huge smoked pork barbeque and a dance. As well, a beauty contest to pick Miss Wild - Corbett A family picnic of the Corbett family and families was held at Hensall Com- munity Park on Saturday which was attended by over Hensall Bertha McGregor .- sixty members and -friends. Following dinner George Parker presided for the election of committees for the picnic next year which is to be held on the third Sunday in August. The regular service at Hensall United Church was held on Sunday, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stanley McDonald conducting the service and Douglas Klopp at the organ. The message was "You snore through the sermon?" Soloist for the day was Wayne Payne of London who wood provided lots of fun, as judges George Rich, Bruce Johnston and Stewart Asher determined Aggie Sierowski of London to be the fairest in the Woodland. The two day slopitch tournament wound to a close on Sunday with both of the Bayfield parks men's and ladies teams narrowly defeating their counterparts from Rondeau. This tourney - also marked the opening of the new ball diamond at Woodland. Sunday also featured a pancake breakfast for all the visitors. Next years plans for the annual event are already in the works, and Rondeau Wildwood Park (just south of Chatham) will be hosting the fun weekend. This. past weekend, the Wildwood Olympics were held at the Bayfield Park with events like swimming, baseball, basketball, ars i sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "What a Friend I Have In Jest's". Greeting at the door was Ross Veal and ushers were Tim Rowcliffe, John O'Brien, Scott Jesney and Donald Wareing. Purchasing a ticket from Jim Parkins was Cheryl Nafziger of RR 1, Zurich. The Zurich Bean Festival ex- presses sincere appreciation to the many Zurich and area businesses and volunteers for their help in making this year's bean festival another big success. 1 Varna Agrico's a 12 to 6 loss in Varnd as they took a 2 to 1 lead in their best -of -five semi-final series. Bayfield Ratepayers meeting - AIthough repeated attempts were made to stymie discussion on the proposed Mill Pond Marina it was what the crowd came to talk about and when allowed, talk they did. The meeting which was held last Saturday morning at the old town hall, saw a very good turnout with most seats . on the floor being occupied and many people occupying the balcony above. Estimates would put the count at over 100 persons.
