Peewees Advance in playoffs
The Dashwood bantams
are enjoying a very good
season as evidenced by their
fine performance against
Hanover in the playoffs.
The Friedsburg team has
won three games in .playoff
action with their latest
victory coming Monday
evening.
The local team clobbered
the northern squad 8-2.
earned run average of 4.11.
Pee wees advance to
OBA playoffs
The Dashwood Pee wees
advanced to the OBA
playoffs with two shut out
victories over Mount Forest
on the weekend.
• Friday night in Mt. Forest
Trevor Johnston pitched a
no-hitter as Dashwood won 5
to 0. Dashwood scored three

Contributing to the Dash-
wood cause were Dwayne
Laporte with two singles, a
triple and a walk; Cam
Steckle with a double and a
single; Danny Dittmer, two
singles; Gary Smith, a home
run and a_single and Dave
Hayterwith asingle.In games
played earlier Dashwood
defeated Hanover 3-2 and 8-7.
In the 3-2 win Dashwood
scored three runs in the fifth
inning on two doubles and
a hit batter. Picking up the
two baggers were Dittmer,
Paul Johnston and Tim
Bender.
The 8-7 game was a see-
saw affair with Dashwood
scoring two runs in the fifth
and sixth innings to secure
the victory. Earlier in the
game Smith hit a home run
for Dashwood.

squad and the records of the
pitchers.

Dashwood had a total of
five hits, a double by Ted
Hodgins and singles by
Trevor Johnston, Mark
Johnston, Darcy Martin ana
Doug Schade.
Sunday afternoon in Dash-
wood, Dashwood scored 2
runs in the fourth inning and
again shut out Mount Forest
to eliminate them from
further playdowns.
Doug Schade pitched the
shut out for Dashwood, each
team collecting five hits.
Schade also had two singles.
The other hits were
collected by Buddy
Richardson, Ted Hodgins
and Trevor Johnston.
It was a very well played
series with the Sunday game
being played in only 1 hour
and 7 minutes.
The pee wees will be
starting their OBA' playoffs
this weekend but have not
yet received word as to who
they will meet.
Bowling starting soon
Bowling in Zurich will be
getting underway very soon
with a meeting for the ladies
league set for tonight
(Thursday) at the Towne
and Country Bowling Lanes.

Tavern wins Exeter tourney
Over the past weekend the
Zurich Dominion Tavern
captured the A cham-
pionship at the Exeter men's
fastball tournament.
Leading the way for the
Tavern crew, was the pit-
ching of Brian "Ace"

Hodgins who allowed only
four runs in four games,
Richard Schilbe and Pat
Bedard who each connected
for 2 home runs apiece.
In the D.T.'s . first game
against Exeter Hurondale,
the Tavern boys scored a 8-0
victory with the game being
called after five innings
because of the mercy rule.
Leading the way at the
plate was Richard Schilbe,
Pat Bedard, Ron Rader,
Wayne Meidinger and Jeff
O'Brien with two hits apiece
and Brian Hodgins and Kim
McKinnon with a single hit
apiece.Pitcher Brian
Hodgins allowed only 1 hit
and recorded 13 strikeouts in
the 5 inning game.
In their second game, the
Tavern Boys scored a 7-0 win
over the Exeter Hawks,
which was also called after
five innings.
Leading the way for the
victors was Pat Bedard who
had an inside the park home
run, Richard Schilbe and
Jeff O'Brien with a double
each, Wayne Meidinger and
Kevin McKinnon with two
singles apiece, and pitcher
Brian Hodgins with a single.
Winning pitcher Brian
Hodgins allowed two hits an
struck out 14 in helping the
,P.T.'s to their victory.
In their semi-final victory,
the winners came up against
their arch rivals from
Clinton, the Bluebirds and
defeated them by the score
of 8-1 which was also called
after five innings because of
the mercy rule.
Leading the D.T.'s of-
fensively was Pat "George"
Bedard who had his second
home run of the tourney,
along with a double and
triple.
Next came Ken Fenwick
with two doubles, Richard
Schilbe with his first of 2
tournament home runs, and
Brian Hodgins, Jeff O'Brien
and Kim McKinnon with a
single each.
Again the winning hurler
was Brian Hodgins who
allowed three hits all singles
and recorded four strikeouts.
With their semi-final
victory over Clinton, this
enabled the Dominion
Tavern. to meet their old
enemies from their own
league, the D.J.'s who
earlier had defeated Gord's
Variety of Exeter 10-2 and
the Seaforth Teachers 6-2.
After their 2nd game the
D.J.'s were awarded the bye
into the final, which set the
stage for an all Zurich
showdown.
The Tavern crew never
looked back after the first
pitch of the game to lead off
hitter 'Richard Schilbe was
hit over the fence for a home
run.
The final score of the game
was 12-3.
Leading the way for
the Champi9ns was Pat
Bedard who had three
singles and a triple, Richard
Schilbe with a home run and
a triple, Jeff O'Brien with a
single, a triple and a long
home run, Kevin McKinnon
with two singles and Brian -
Hodgins, Ken Fenwick, Gary
Koehler and ,Kim McKinnon
with a single apiece.
. Leading the D.J.'s attack
was Wayne "Mike" . Clarke
with a three run homer, Ray
Weido with a triple and
single, Richard Fisher with a
two singles and Mike
Desjardine with one.
Winning' pitcher for the
fourth consecutive game was
Brian Hodgins who recorded
seven strikeouts and allowed
six hits. Losing pitchers
Wayne Clarke and Barry
Taylor combined for a total
of 7 strikeouts.
After the game the victors
were presented with the
Molson Cup and a cheque for
$150 along with souvenir
crests.
One_more presentation
was made as the Tavern's
hurler Brian "Ace" Hodgins
was presented with the most
valuable player award from
Molsons, which was in the
form of lovely plaque
presented by tournament
representative Ron Bogart.
D.J.'s and D.T.'s split
league games
• During the past week the
D.J.'s and the Dominion
Tavern split in their two
regular scheduled games.
Last Wednesday night the
D.J.'s defeated the Tavern
crew by a score of 6-2.
Leading the way for the
winners was Mike Clarke
wit a three run homer, Mike
DeJardine with a triple and
single, Paul Morrison and
Dave Clarke with one hit
apiece.
For the losers Richard
Schilbe had a double and Jeff
O'Brien a single. Winning
pitchers Mike Clarke and
Barry Taylor recorded five
strikeouts and allowed two
hits. .
Losing pitcher Randy
McKinnon allowed 5 hits and
fanned 7 opposing batters.
On Monday night of this
week, the Tavern scored a
thrilling 9-8 victory over the
D.J.'s to gain a split in their
two game series.. Leading
the way for the winners was

D.J.'s was Paul Morrison
who had two home runs and
a single to account for six of
the losers' runs, next came
Ken Clarke with two hits,
Mike Clarke, and Ray Weido
with a single apiece.
Winning pitcher Kim
McKinnon recorded five
strikeouts and allowed seven
hits. Losing pitcher was
Barry Taylor who allowed 10
hits and recorded one
strikeout.
In the other Monday game
the Pontiacs outslugged the
Patz Boys 12-7.
The green team scored 11
runs in the first three innings
i
to put the blue gentlemen in
the hole.
Leading the way were
Mike Overholt with two
singles and two walks;
Percy Bedard with two
singles and a triple; Bob
Brown with the same count;
Barry Overholt with a single
and a home run and Don
O'Brien with a pair of
singles.
In games last week Patz
defeated theSunsets 4-2 and
7-2 in a pair of games.
Minor softball
The Cubs trounced the
Pirates 24-9 with the victors
picking up 23 of their runs in
the game's first three in-
ning§.
Rob Ducharme lead the
way with four hits including
a triple. Paul Smith, Jamie
Durand, Diane ' Hoffman,
Greg Overholt and Gordon
Denomme had two hits each.
