In the ladies slo-pitch
section of the Tournament
the Bayfield Babes were
grouped with teams from
Rostock, Milverton, Clinton,
Goderich, and Walkerton,
and made it as far as the `B'
semi-finals before being
eliminated.
In the opening game 'on
Saturday, they came up
against tough competition
playing Rostock. Although
the Babes led most of the
way, a letdown in the fifth
inning saw Rostock pull
ahead and coast to a 9-3 win.
The loss dropped the
Babes into consolation B
play where they met
Goderich Electric in the
quarter -finals Saturday
afternoon. Here the Bayfield
girls took the lead in the first
inning, and never looked
back as they went on to
trample Goderich by a 33-3
score.
This victory set up Sunday
mornings semi-final against
the Bank of Nova Scotia
from Goderich, but the
Babes lacked the necessary
manpower with only 7
regulars in the lineup, as
they succumbed 13-5 and
were eliminated from the
tournament.
The Bayfield Flyers
represented the village in the
Men'sslo-pitch section of the
Sportsfest. Faced with
equally stiff competition, the
Flyers came up big on
Saturday.
The tournament began on
Friday night for the Flyers,
as they whipped the
Goderich Renegades, 19-7, to
advance to 'A' division play.
Saturday morning they
came out swinging again and
moved another notch up the
ladder by knocking off
Londesboro, 10 to 3.
Quarter final A play
commenced Saturday night
with the Flyers matched up
against the tough Goderich
Bulldogs, but they went
down easily as Bayfield
picked up a 14-7 victory.
Sunday afternoon the
Flyers had climbed to un-
precedented heights, facing
Meneset Park in the semi-
finals. The game turned out
to be a cliffhanger, but
Bayfield pulled it out of the

In South Huron Men's Slo-
Pitch League playoff action,
the Bayfield Knighthawks
were ousted from further 'A'
division play when they were
edged by Dashwood, 8-7, in
Wednesdays nights game in
Bayfield. The quarterfinal
series saw all •three games
end with close scores,
making for exciting
baseball.
The Knighthawks will now
meet the Bayfield Flyers in
consolation round play. This
series is expected to begin
later in the week.
The Flyers had previously
dropped their quarter final
opening series, two games to
nil to the Zurich Eagles.
The Bluewater Ladies Slo-
pitch semi-finals opened up
on Tuesday and Wednesday,
as the scheduled games on
Monday were both rained
out.
Playing in Bayfield on
Tuesday night, the Babes
beat the Varna Agricos the
hard way. After opening up a
14-7 lead through the seventh
inning, the Babes dropped
behind in the final inning, 15-
14 after an eight run out
burst by the Agrico's,
sparked by Varna's Sandra
Webster.
With two out in the bottom
of the eighth Katey Walden
tripled, driving in two Babes
runners as Bayfield slipped
by 16-15 to take a one to nil
lead in the best -of -five
series.
Wednesday evening in
Zurich, the Bayfield
Goodtimes put up a good
battle, but went down to a 7-3
defeat at the hands of the
Stanley Stars. The Stars took
a 1-0 lead in their series by
virtue of the win.
