Churches hold lakeside service::.
Varna and Goshen United
Churches held their annual
outdoor church service in the
pavilion at ,Stanley Park on
Sunday. Many people look
Varna.

quartette - of girls - Lori
Consitt, Kim and Tracy
Hayter and Becky,,Mcjjinley.
- singing "The Joy of the
Lord" and "Give Me Oil in
My Lamp", accompanied by
Becky and Tracy playing
ukuleles. Hiep, the wife and
mother of the Wen family,
sang "Till We Meet Again"
at the conclusion of the
worship service, and
"Something Good" following
the noon meal. Marjorie
Hayter was the organist for
the service.
Dianne Kirton and Shirley
Hill supervised the
children's races and games.
They began by flying paper
airplanes they made
themselves, and Thuy Wen's
model went much further
than the rest, and attracted a
lot of attention. First prize
winners for races were
'David Hayter, Darryn
McAsh, Lori CQnsitt and
Becky McKinley.
Scott Kirton was the first
to burst his balloon, and Lori
Consitt won the shoe
scramble. Scott Consitt's
Don Darling of Country Corners says:

team won the egg on the
spoon relay. Jim Hill's team
was the winner in both
dressing and undressing the
leader.
Tossing water -filled
balloons got some of the kids
soaked before they got to the
beach, and the little ones
enjoyed a candy and money
scramble.
Winners in "Guess How
Many Smarties" were Rev.
Wilena Brown and Marg
Elliott.
The church service next
Sunday will be in Goshen at
11:00, not in Varna as
previously announced. This
will give the newly varnished
floor in Varna church more
time to dry thoroughly
before it's used.
Personals
Rev. Brown had a very
enjoyable holiday in Nova
Scotia, spending part of the
time with her family. She
was also at Chataugua Lake
near Jamestown, N.Y. for a
few days.
Charles, Bernice and
Charlene Reid visited with
Bill and Mary Reid of Sault
Ste. Marie last week.
Dayle Leppington spent a
week with Bob and Gwynne
Roberts and family at -their
home on a beautiful lake in
Minaki near Kenora.
Krista McAsh had the
misfortune to break both
bones in her arm last.
Thursday while at Camp
Menesetung with her
mother, who was one of the
arts and crafts leaders.
Mildred Mc Ash and
Marjorie Hayter will share
the organist's duties in
Varna church beginning in
September.
Dave and Bonnie Roy and
family enjoyed a ten-day
tour of Southern Ontario,
travelling as far east as
Ottawa, then down along the

Golden Glimpses
By the time this issue
reaches our readers, the
residents of Zurich and area
will beall gear up for the
Zurich Bean Festival which
will take place on Saturday,
August 23. We invite visitors
and particularly former
Zurich and area people to
visit with our residents here
and renew old acquain-
tances.
The sympathy of residents
and staff is extended to the
family of the late Mrs.
Isabella Jones.
Residents who were
visiting during the week
were: Miss Cecil McLeod,
` Mr. James Clarke, Mrs.
ancy Koehler, Mrs. Inez
McEwen and Mrs. Ferne
Armitage.
On Tuesday evening, the
Ladies of Thames Road
United Church sponsored
the August birthday party. A

variety programme of
reading, piano instruihentals
and violin and guitar duets
were enjoyed. Following the
programme, birthday gifts
were presented, courtesy of
the Ladies Auxiliary and a
delicious lunch was, served.
Residents having birthdays
during the month of August
were Mrs. Ferne Armitage,
Mrs. Rose Butler, Mrs.
Alberta Lawson, Mr. Fred
Miller and Mrs. Eva Thiel.
We welcome Miss Eleanor
Plumsteel, formerly of
Clinton and Exeter area.
Bingo was played on
Friday evening followed by
refreshments.
The Sunday evening
chapel service was con-
ducted by Rev. Grant Mills
of the Exeter United Church.
Mr. Robert Cameron
presided at the organ during
the worship service.
